Sony’s waking up and smelling the European coffee…at last!

If you’ve been hanging around these parts since around June last year, the chances are you’ve read an article by me that complained about Sony and their relative indifference to Europe when you compare content between the Europe Store and the U.S. and Japan PS Store.

You might have also noticed that this stopped after a while.

Alright, it was out of boredom, but look! Sony are doing something useful over here! Yay! Read all about it over the jump…

Here’s the re-cap, as per: Sony have, many a time, apparently forgotten about Europe when announcing things, pricing things or just generally doing anything with things whatsoever. And it got boring talking about it after a while. There was only so many PS Store failures, game delays, missing features and even community failings that one can take before they go off and write about something else, after finally caving in and admitting that there is nothing they can do about it.

Fortunately, the folks at Sony’s European offices (there are a lot of them, so I don’t know which one this was organised at) have put their heads together and decided, after far too long, that Europe is going to get its own PlayStation.Blog. It only took them a good year and a half or so to decide that ThreeSpeech was – to put it nicely – as beneficial to the EU PS3 community as a cowpat but hey, good on them.

For the unenlightened, ThreeSpeech is – soon to be “was” – a “semi-official” PlayStation blog for Europe that is “produced in partnership with PlayStation”. In essence, it was a site run by a public relations company that recycled press releases and put out the occasional interesting column about arcade machines (which, to be frank, aren’t really relevant to a site about PlayStation 3).

On April 17th, ThreeSpeech will cease to exist and the European PlayStation.Blog (verbally the PlayStation DOT Blog, one assumes) will step into the shoes vacated moments before. At the moment we have no idea what it’s going to be like but I presume that it’ll be filled with localised content for the largest regions – or at least chewed up by Google Translate and spat out again – and packed with excuses as to why Game X still isn’t out while our cousins across the Atlantic are already enjoying Game Y.

More details are coming soon, according to TS’ post, but I’m thinking: Official PlayStation Magazine in the UK is launching its very own website soon. Could the two correlate? Who knows. We’ll find out soon enough.

ThreeSpeech is dead, long live PS DOT Blog.
