With so many developers providing post-release content for their titles, it can be difficult to keep track of all the DLC-related news circulating around the Internet. Simply managing the weekly Rock Band updates is a task in and of itself. If not handled carefully, the overload of information can cause your head to swell to the size of a watermelon. My friend, let’s call him Buttons, can’t walk through his front door without some clever maneuvering. Also, he gets attacked by rock-chucking children whenever he walks past an elementary school.
Fortunately, you have me … and Dave. Yesterday, that crafty sheep farmer wrote about the seven-day delay for the first batch of Saints Row 2 DLC. I would have beaten him to the punch, but I was too busy watching reruns of “Full House.”
Hit the jump for a probably incomplete roundup of soon-to-be-released DLC.
First up is the recently revealed “Steel and Titanium” DLC for Guerrilla Games’ Killzone 2. Available starting April 30, it will feature two multiplayer maps, Vekta Cruiser and Wasteland Bullet, based on areas from the single-player campaign. Despite recent Internet rumblings, it does not appear that Sony and Guerrilla will be offering the pack for free. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the price will be announced in the near future.
This next bit of DLC will likely interest two people: me and some random wrestling fan who found this site by mistake. Truth be told, I have no clue why I am writing this. No one is going to read it. I could write anything without fear of ridicule or punishment. Yak spit. Picnic basket. John Stamos is sexy.
But what if someone does read this? I will look pretty foolish. Best get back to the news.
Own a copy of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009? Well, you might be interested in the second downloadable superstar pack for THQ’s popular brawler. For a mere $4.99 (400 Microsoft Points), you can snatch up Vader, the Bushwhackers, Doink the Clown and Earthquake. A misfit cast indeed, but it’s nice to see that the developers selected some legends who haven’t been in any recent wrestling games. I only have one question: where are Adam Bomb and Crush? Get on that THQ.
Also releasing today is PixelJunk Eden Encore, which includes five new levels to play in, as well as a “zero-G item,” a “mirror garden” and some new tunes. The expansion pack will set you back $5.99, but that seems like a reasonable price for such a beefy amount of content. It is not like Q-Games is peddling horse armor.
Don’t like shooters, wrestling games or garden romps? How about a classic Nintendo 64 platformer? Yep, Rare has finally revealed the date for the XBLA release of Banjo’s second adventure, Banjo-Tooie. The much-beloved classic will drop on the digital marketplace on April 29 boasting a “super-charged frame rate” and a few other tweaks. To sweeten the deal, Rare has finally implemented the Stop ‘N’ Swop feature the studio has been crowing about for years. This should entice some series veterans to ante up, since the virtual egg hunt was cut from the N64 version of Banjo-Kazooie.
See anything that tickles your fancy? If not, then perhaps you will enjoy the latest LittleBigPlanet wares, or the “Toy Soldiers” map pack for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. The latter is a free download available to PS3 and 360 owners. Happy spending.
