You read the title above and you just know that it has to be Killzone 2. I mean, come on…that’s the only PS3 exclusive in the last few months that has moved any copies right? You are wrong my friend. Hit the jump to see what game topped Killzone 2 as the top selling PS3 game in March!
Welcome back….so you ready? While Killzone 2 was busy selling 296,000 copies in the US in March, MLB 09: The Show came in at 305,000 copies, 9000 more than what the Helghast were selling. Does this mean that MLB 09: The Show is a better game that Killzone 2? YES! Yes it does!!!
OK, so maybe sales numbers don’t mean that one game is better than another (Call of Duty 3 anyone?) but these results do show that The Show has a growing fan base. Personally, I have put 40 plus hours into MLB 09: The show and only three into Killzone 2.
That means in the month of march (and first half of April) I have wasted 43 hours of my life on video games…you’re disappointed in me aren’t you? So am I….that number should be much much higher.

what game beat it?
MLB means nothing to me!
the 09 leads to be believe its one of those annual sports games all sports fan HAVE to buy.
Wow, nothing against MLB it’s a great game. It’s sad that the “flagship” title Killzone 2 was outsold by a yearly sports title. Way to support the best shooter on your system PS3 owners. I bought it day one, and while it doesn’t contend with CoD4 on 360, its still an extremely addictive shooter. This is a major bummer.
It’s a major bummer that the “flagship” title for this year on the PS3 wasn’t a big enough game to warrant outselling a yearly sports title.
When will people learn that reinventing the wheel when it comes to basic gameplay elements (ie controls) is not a safe bet. Also, multiplayer on the PS3 still isn’t what it is on the 360 (whether we have to pay for it or not. If that was the only excuse, I bet a lot of PS3 owners would be willing to pony up for comparable services as what is included in XBL in order to have it be more reliable.
@ Irish boy – read what piston said..my thoughts exactly.
I think Killzone2 is great. I really do. I have always and will always play the game that I can have the most fun with when I sit down to play.
Over the last month and half, that game has been MLB09: The Show. When I’m bored with that (likely in January of 2010!) I’ll likely go back to Fallout 3.
KZ2 looks to be second best to me for quite a while…and second best doesn’t get much playing time. Ask Matt Cassell…wait!! that’s it!!!! KZ2 needs to break MLB09:The Shows legs! Then people will play it!
Killzone 2 has already sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. Hardly disappointing. Keep in mind that NPD only tracks sales in the U.S.
@Havok yepyep…KZ2 isn’t suffering by any means. Good reminder brotha!
@Havok: But SCEA recently announced that 1M was “worldwide”… worldwide sales of 1M seems pretty low IMO.
Rothbart…we know you’re a XBox fanboy…wait…that’s not right
Wasn’t Killzone 2 supposed to be THE killer shooter game for PS3?
Yes, 1 million is a lot, but when you compare it to Halo, that’s nothing.
NOT TRYING TO START A FLAME WAR. Just pointing out how PS3’s exclusives continue to sell much less than anticipated. The question is why?
I theeenk that is pretty pretty low keeping in mind how much Sony did to develop, advertise and hype the game. But then again MLB 09: The Show is being hailed as the best Baseball title come this year and then once more, most people’d rather shoot baseballs than bullets.
if you hope on killzone 2 online there is just under 1 mill JUST online…anyhow its all a matter of personal preference i sa..who gives two shits about sales..hate to say it but a vast majority of the gaming community have a shithouse taste in what makes a good game..and more often then not, the underrated ones are the true works of genius e.g. ico, shadow of colossus
p.s. fuck yeah im biased towards sony, but with good reason
