Time to finally ditch the PSP for a Nintendo DS?

As a card carrying member of the Church of PSP, I never thought this day would come; I want my Nintendo DS back! Given how much I love my PSP and how much I loathed the majority of the big name titles on the DS, nobody is more shocked than I am that I plan on buying one…. again (third times the charm)!

Lets go over some of the great reasons to return to the dual screened dark side, after the jump!

It has been a few years since I last owned a DS (I’ve had two to date), and until recently, I never regretted getting rid of them. Some people love the DS, about a 100 million people as a matter of fact, but I found the majority of the titles…well…lame. Antiquated graphics, tons of kiddy titles (Nintendogs?!) and an almost constant stream of Mario and/or Pokemon-ish games meant that once I got my first PSP, I never looked back. Until now…

What brought me around? A number of things, though I stand by my previous grievances. Really, it is as much about the PSP’s upcoming release list, or lack thereof (Resistance: Retribution being one of the few titles I am actually looking forward too), as it is the DS games that are out, or on their way, that I want to play that has me thinking about dropping cash on a DS yet again.

I travel with my PSP just about everywhere, and I will always consider it my portable platform of choice, but with only a handful of PSP games to look forward to in 2009 and 2010, I need something to play when I’m on the go.

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and Age of Empires: Mythologies all came out since I last had a DS, and I’m not ashamed to say I want them! Then came Rockstar Leeds announcement that Grand Theft Auto: ChinaTown Wars was coming to the DS, and after watching the latest trailers, I’m pretty much sold on the idea that I will once more be a DS owner. The things are damn cheap too, which I admit is a factor.

Check out this great trailer for GTA: ChinaTown Wars.

I like to pick on Nintendo, and that will never change. Having said that, I simply cannot live without games to play when I sit on the bus every day on my way to work. I’ll be damned if I have to actually interact and talk with human beings at 6:30 am on a crowded bus! If the PSP cannot provide me with enough fun games to play right now, I’ll go elsewhere to get my fix.

Does my plan to purchase a DS increase the chances of me getting a Wii? Hell no!

Well…maybe…

Typical Canadian. When things get tough you just throw money at the problem until the cries of “health care” and “eh” are dull enough for you to fall sleep in your igloo.

Seriously, do you actually find China Town Wars appealing? Honestly? For realz, cuz if you do I hope that dude and that otha dude kick ya azz!

Come on Pac-Man! Don’t join the infidels at the Church of Nintend-o-logy.

China town wars = drug dealer sim. Seriously, you have a briefcase full of drugs you can sell and stuff.

If you haven’t already, customize your psp’s firmware and try out some homebrew games. I spend the majority of my psp time playing downloaded (legal) games, unless something else comes out I’m interested in.
