I was looking over my son’s homework last night, secretly wishing all that was expected of me was simple little assignments like his. At the time, grade school work (and later, high school work) seemed like torture, but it’s only later, after you’ve taken your place in the “real world” that you realize how nice you really had it.
Since it’s a slow gaming news day and I can’t come up with anything more interesting to write about, I’ll copy my son’s assignment (albeit, I’m picking a different topic than he did) and let you guys see what sixth graders are doing these days. Check out the assignment after the jump…
The assignment was titled “Preview and Predict” and instructed the student to write one paragraph (sorry, Lono… the teacher said I only had to write one paragraph!) where you preview something and then predict whether you think you will like it once it comes out. My son did his assignment on Disney Pixar’s Up but I’ve chosen the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine game.
Okay, so I cheated a bit by embedding the preview right here… why have multimedia if we don’t embrace it? The folks at joystiq.com are hosting the actual preview video from the game and judging from their brief comments, they share my rather surprising and excited anticipation for this game. Let the assignment begin (and I’m taking a sixth grader’s writing style as my motivation here guys… I’m not aiming to be the curve blower in class! Brown-noser? Me? Never!)
I’m writing my preview of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” the game. It is a game that shows how Wolverine got his powers. It looks very full of action and excitement. Wolverine fights bad guys with his metal claws and ability to heal himself. In the game, Wolverine will have really good jumping abilities. The movie for Wolverine looks good, so I’m sure the game will be good (See what I did there? Sixth graders don’t know that movie games suck, they’re the target audience for movie games!) I predict Wolverine will be a big hit with people that like action movies and action games. Wolverine is cool.
Sean “Rothbart” Workman Room 8, Sarcastic Middle SchoolI sure hope I get a good grade on this assignment. One thing I do remember from middle school is detention. I’d rather go to recess and play dodge-ball… what’s that? They don’t let you play dodge-ball in school anymore? Okay, I’ll play Red Rover, Red Rover then… wait?!?! You can’t play that either? Screw it then… I’ll take the detention!

I reserve hype for this one. The night level with the helicopter looked cool: being able to stealth around and stab guys in the back and using cover to avoid the helicopter’s fire could be a fun concept, but the jungle level really turned me off. It looks like a pretty crappy version of a classic beat-em-up (or possibly hack and slash, as the case may be). Either way, depending on what they emphasize on, this game could be the best movie game in a long time, or it could be crap-tastic like the rest of them.
When I was in the 6th grade I thought about Wolverine a lot. Like all the time a lot. When did kids start thinking about Disney more than Wolverine. These are strange and uncertain times we live it.
Woah, the Wolverine trailer took me by surprise.
@ Chubbaluphigous Yep, I think the same. More Disney than wolwerine? More things than I expected had changed
Btw, what’s de meaning of Brown-noser?
Thanks!
