Every once in a while we pluck entries from SGC Members’ blog posts to go up on the front page. Today it’s Binman ni’s turn for the spotlight. Binman ni opted to write his blog post in the style of a diary. Read on and enjoy, but remember… if you don’t have your own blog, you’re only a click away!
Diary of a man who cant sleep (NXE gripe)
Its 01:20, I’m tired but for some reason when I got into bed, the last thing my body wanted to do was sleep. So I thought I’d come have a winge…
New Xbox Experience: Months On
So it’s been out a while and yes, it was a pretty major change to the Xbox 360 interface, but I’m wondering if others have the same issues as me in navigating around NXE?
I was a big fan of the old blade system/setup as I’m a man of simple tastes, but if I’m honest, I did enjoy the 5 minutes of fun I had searching around the new style menu and 10 minutes making my avatar look like a cartoon me; then making a lady character; then back to the 1st effort. But like the Nintendo’s Wii and their Mii’s, the the novelty wore off quick because really there isn’t much to do. So I’m back to wanting Xbox Live to work the way it always has, in a quick simple hassle free format. I don’t think it does anymore.
I find the marketplace a chore to navigate. I know what I’m looking for but for some reason it always takes me a while to get there. I’m talking a minute or so here so it’s not a disaster, but the time spent staring at a frozen screen while trying to load “all the content” instead of the 3 latest things is really starting to get my goat.
The Friends tab is the same. Awww bless, the little people are all smiling and waving. It’s amusing for 3 seconds but then selecting a friend and wanting to check their previous game achievements, or invite them to party, or view their profile all seems to lead me right back to a frozen screen for anywhere between 10 and 40 seconds. Again, they’re small delays here but adding it all up, it feels like I’m spending far too much time doing nothing on my Xbox. If I wanted to do nothing on my Xbox, I wouldn’t be sitting in front of it.
I guess my main gripes are the frozen screens. I feel they have forced this update on everyone for the sake of making it look prettier. I know I can just push the guide button and get back to the “old” blade format, but it’s the blades that always freeze because most of the time they end up in a grey pop out blade at some point. Is it trying to do too much? Am I just winging because its late?
Maybe…

Its spelt “Whinge” or “Whinging” fyi….
Glad to hear I am not the only one getting frozen screens on the dashboard…all the time. Its the worst when hitting the back button to exit out of a friends profile…I swear it takes close to a minute sometimes to exit out.
It doesn’t fix everything. There is still lag in some parts. However, clearing the cache of your Xbox 360 actually does help in speeding up the NXE. Note though that you will have to redownload title updates. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1121205
Dez is right on the spelling.
And it just means whining or moaning…
Yep, winge just means to complain.
I think the NXE takes too long to load everything too. The old one was faster and it was easier to find stuff. And I find the avatars to be dumb. This is supposed to be Xbox 360, not Xbox Wii60
