DLC is a finicky issue. On one hand, everyone wants their favorite games to be expanded and enhanced. On the other hand, they want all their content to be handed to them for the cheapest price available to them. I’m not saying that everyone is like that, just that a large percentage of players complain about DLC price no matter what tier it’s at. The GTAIV DLC was too expensive at $20 for many people – and because of that, the Saints Row 2 DLC for $10 is “outrageous.”
Some DLC is way over-priced. But there is some DLC out there like the GTA expansion and Rock Band tracks that seem to give enough bang for their buck. The Saints Row 2 DLC looks to fall into the latter category, so hit the jump to see why I think that.

The name of the DLC pack is “Ultor Exposed.” It will be released on April 16th and will cost 800
or $9.99 on the PSN. It’s pack 1 of 3, and the second two have no details yet.
Here’s the rundown of the new additions:
- 3 New Missions
- Co-Op Mission Carnage Metagame
- Six new Vehicles
- More Hairstyles and Outfits
- New Multiplayer Maps
- Tera Patrick as a Homie
The new missions will take about 2 or so hours to complete, which is a good bit of time for only 3 missions. The piece I’m most interested in is the Co-Op metagame. From what I gather, you will be able to start this metagame while you’re in any mission in the game, not just from the new expansion. When you turn it on, you and your partner are fighting to cause as much destruction and carnage as possible while attempting to complete the mission. You get a penalty for killing your partner, and at the end of the mission the points are tallied and the winner walks away with a nice bank. For anyone who’s completed the story in co-op, this seems like a great reason to play through it again. If you haven’t beaten the game in co-op, this is just another piece on the stack of awesome for you to experience.
The vehicles and new customization options are pretty interesting. The vehicles look like they’ll be pretty fun to mess around with and hopefully they’ll be customizable at the mechanic. The multiplayer maps are a cool addition.. but no one plays the multiplayer in Saints Row 2 besides co-op.
The last addition, and the one IGN was fawning over is the character of Tera Patrick, a porn star. She’ll have a leading role in the expansion missions and eventually you’ll be able to call her as a homie to help you on missions or just cause random destruction. I suppose that’s pretty cool, but I can’t imagine anyone who is playing the game to really care that much about her being added.
All in all, it seems like a pretty good addition to Saints Row 2. It may not be completely worth the $10 for every player out there, but I know I’ve spent $10 on content that I wasn’t able to get full use out of before (I’m looking at you, CoD4 maps, and the people who hate them so they skip them.) It’s no Lost and the Damned, but it’s also half the price. Perhaps packs 2 and 3 will deluge the game in the content it deserves. I just hope this pack revitalizes the game, because in my opinion it deserves more praise than GTAIV ever received.
I think I’ll be picking this up, but I still have a couple weeks to decide. Will you be putting your $10 down for this? Do you think it’s overpriced and why? Sound off in the comments below!
