Pride comes before the fall: A KZ2 story *SPOILERS*

As some of you may know, I take a lot of pride in the fact I beat most games on the hardest setting possible. I haven’t even bothered to play a game on normal for a pretty long time now. The catch to all that pride is that it can blind you to the obvious. When your ALWAYS looking for a challenge, sometimes the smart move escapes you because you’ve convinced yourself that the toughest way must be the best way.

Well, my pride not only got the best of me, it kicked my teeth in over 200 times!

Find out all about how my pride led to my downfall in KZ2 after the jump!I beat Killzone 2 on Veteran within the first week. Yeah, I know, “big deal, tons of people have beaten the game on Veteran.” What a lot of people have not done is beat the game on Elite. With its lack of a HUD and no crosshairs for running and gunning, Killzone 2 on Elite is a real monster.

At present I am at the very end of the game, on the second floor, working on taking those waves out to get to Radec. It’s cool, but that’s not what has me feeling like a blind punk.

The one part of the game that gave me the most trouble has not been the end of the game this time, oh no no, it is that damn VTAC fight! On Veteran I died maybe 6 times before I kicked its ass.

On Elite, it kicked the hell out of me like I was Orlando Bloom and the VTAC was Mike Tyson (it wants to eat my children?!). Running away from that flying monstrosity, trying to keep that central pillar between me and all those bullets is tough on any setting. Oh, and those flipping rockets and the absolutely crazy smoke cloud they produce is an extra little dose of brutal.

Trying to to run and gun with the pistol; attempting to shoot the damn glowing battery things without a crosshair was freaking tough. Even when I did manage to pause the VTAC and nail it with a few rockets, I just kept dying right before I could launch the kill shot.

I did not die once, or twice, or even ten times, oh no. I died just over 200 hundred times! I’m not joking! My pride got the best of me, and I just kept walking into a hail of bullets and rockets over and over again. All because I was too freaking stubborn to ask for help or actually read a strategy guide.

That’s why, when my buddy found out that I had died THAT many times, because I tried to dodge around that stupid pillar the whole time, he laughed at me. A long, from the belly, laugh at my expense.

Why is it so funny? Because there is actually a downstairs hallway you can hide in! OMFG! The whole time I was getting massacred running around in the open, I could have been safe and sound where the VTAC could not get me! Turns out you only need to go upstairs to get ammo! *FACEPALM*

If you run around the level the energy barrel things are on you’ll find the hiding spot I’m talking about!

Could I have beaten the VTAC fight on Elite faster? Hells yes! Unfortunately, I was too high on my on pride and bravado that I could not admit to myself I needed help or that there might be a better way. Let this be a lesson to you all. Remember the story of PMPB vs. the VTAC.

All that said, Killzone 2 on Veteran is for pussies. I’m just saying. *NOOCH*

Dude, I did the same thing. I died 37 times in that section before I discovered downstairs.

    • You could just put a piece of tape on the middle of your TV screen where your crosshairs would normally be. That would help but may be considered unfair by the Helgaust.

I think you mean ATAC PMPB. I don’t think you are the only one that has made that error when fighting the ATAC.

lol, I noticed the downstairs by accident

    • Wow… now _I_ don’t feel so silly. I found the downstairs almost immediately after dying twice and realizing there were… _stairs_ there. :D

I can’t imagine beating that guy WITHOUT the tunnel, so props on your previous playthrough(s)!

Hehe, I made a similar mistake myself, thinking you were supposed to just play ring around the rosey with that pillar.

I must be the second coming of Visari , I found it my first try. Maaybe by running around trying to hide from that thing. But damn dude 200 times, you are retardcore, I would give up.

Well. I actually somehow glitched and killed it with two rockets. I shot the battery with the pistol, the ATAC stopped zapped by electricity, but it was so closed to the actual battery that when I hit it with a rocket a couple times it started a chain reaction and ‘exploded’ another battery next to the one I shot and the ATAC got zapped for the second time and I could finish it off. I managed to defeat it in about 25 seconds that way if I remember properly. Talk about lucky.
