Sony and Rockstar used to be such good friends. Baring a few exceptions, the entirety of the Grand Theft Auto franchise was to be found exclusively on Sony’s platform, but after the Xbox 360 only The Lost and Damned DLC, and the DS’s Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, it looked like Rockstar could be leaving their BFF behind.
‘Not so’, says Sony.
In an interview with MTV Multiplayer Blog, Sony’s head of PSP marketing said that “Rockstar has to manage their business as they see fit”, but “we certainly have a tremendous relationship with them and always have.” With regards to a new PSP Grand Theft Auto, Sony said that “no one should sleep on that franchise” and that “there’s definitely continued conversations with Rockstar on all their brands.”
The PSP GTAs have always sold well, but I always found them a bit too clunky to manage with the PSP’s aggravating analog nub, and the antiquated mission structure, with no checkpoints or retry option, always made them a bit too frustrating for on-the-go gaming. Still, someone obviously likes them and you never know, maybe you won’t have to restart every mission from scratch when you die, this time around.
