Every game, no matter how good, has its detractors. There will always be people who take issue with some aspect of a game. Sometimes based on rational grievances, sometimes because they can’t admit to themselves that they just stink at playing it.
The final battle(s) of Killzone 2 has become one such grievance for a few of “those people.” Of course, if you flip the coin, that exact same battle is held up by scores of fans as proof of just how great Killzone 2 really is.
Find out my strategy (in excruciating detail) for beating Killzone 2 ’s final battle after the jump!
KZ2’s final battle is bar none my favorite FPS ending in years. After the pitifully weak, easy and generally dull endings handed to us by Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Crysis and so many others these past few years, it was like a breath of fresh air to find myself actually challenged by the end of a FPS. The aforementioned games gave players final battles that were easier than previous levels for Frawlz sake! The end of a game should ALWAYS be the most challenging and rewarding.
Let me set the stage for you all. You’ve reached the end of Killzone 2 and have entered the Visari Palace. The door closes behind you and you face a fairly large room filled with numerous pieces of cover scattered across the main floor. There is a stairwell on the left and right sides of the room that lead up to the balcony on the second floor that circles the entire room. Numerous doors are built into the walls at the back of the room across from you and on either side of the second floor, from which the numerous waves of Helghast your about to throw down against will appear.
There is no way to reach the very back of the room across from you because of rubble on both the main and second floors. Helghast can jump down from the second floor balcony at the back, but you can’t get up. If you still can’t picture the setup you’ll see what I mean the minute you get to the end of Killzone 2.
The gist of what you need to accomplish is to kill the numerous waves Radec will send at you until the big man himself comes out to play. Now don’t get me wrong, this portion of the game IS the hardest part of Killzone 2 and definitely above averagely difficult for an FPS even on the Trooper setting. All of which is a GOOD thing.

This guy is a complete bitch, warping behind you and stabbing you in the back. He’s even worse than Seth in SF IV
Jesus dude… I beat the final level in three hours sixteen minutes… it took me almost FOUR hours to read this!
I died 20 times on the last page alone!
@ Roth:
Like your love letter was any shorter, at least he suggested a solution.
@Zvolen: it was one page shorter with LOTS of pictures…
By no means was I blown away by the ending. However, it was definately a good challenge that didn’t go the way of gears which was basically a QuickTime event with one button u just hold down. Killzone definately leaves u more satisfyed even though it can be frusterating when rocket launchers randomly appear. Overall, a good ending to a pretty good campaign in my opinion
@Roth: I guess thats true, maybe PMPB’s was just more entertaining..
for my peeps with surround sound just keep your ears open.. you’ll know where around you radec spawns
I beat him in 21 mins just missing the trophy I was pissed. But I used the nade launcher till the 4th wave comes and then switched out for the snipe and sat in one of the stair wells, much easier than staying in the back on the 2nd floor.
When radec comes teleporting around I just grabbed a shotty and stayed in one spot spinning around. he would teleport behind me and then shotgun to the face, if he teleports far away just let rico shoot him, rinse repeat. That is what I did
I haven’t read through it because I’ve barely touched single player. However I love the picture at the top, and your link to Rothbart’s love letter.
i just knifed radec when he got near me
Thanks PMPB i needed a little help with all the rockets never thought about staying in the stairs.
Seriously though, its one thing to make it challenging, but its jsut not in sync with the rest of the game as far as difficulty is concerned. It goes from easy to butt sex with no lube in just a few minutes.
I haven’t beat the last battle just yet, I kept getting caught up at the rockets trying to just dodge them [obviously didn't work out to well for me]. I did notice something, don’t know what effect it would have on the battle, but during the first and second waves on the second floor, Radec is actually firing at you from the other side. It’s very much possible to sniper him. Each time you hit him, he does cloak and run off changing positions. Being that it’s during the wave of “idiot” soldiers, I was able to just let the other guy play with them since they seemed to be on the same level. Neither would kill each other and I could hang at the back of the room taking little fire. After about 6-10 head shots from the sniper, he’ll quit appearing. I don’t THINK he’s actually dead yet cause I didn’t see him fall on any try. Once I make it past the rockets I suppose I’ll find out, but just wanted to throw it out there as something for others to try. I also think, after the last time where he disappears for good, Sev will stop and reload the riffle. [I'm about 80% sure I still had ammo cause I manually reload usually while he's cloaked].
Excellent, hopefully this will prevent anyone else *cough* fothbart *cough* from having a lil ol teary about the game.
I say, grab another ‘nade and harden the f*** up.
I didn’t get a chance to finish the last battle but I made it to Rad and fought him a few times, i’m gonna say that shooting him prior, did not make any significant difference. But other’s can check it out anyways.
I also did that battle slightly differently than mentioned, rather than spamming grenades in the beginning, I used the sniper for a bit picking at Rad and the easy groups. Then once I got to the groups that came upstairs I switched to the assault rifle. Then once the rockets started flying, using the advice on here with my own, I grabbed the grenade launcher and started spamming the back row where the rockets were, also taking out the ones who passed view from the stair on the first floor. Only problem I’ve seen with it though is when Rad appears, I’ve got the low ammo grenade launcher which doesn’t work to well against someone who likes to get close to you, meaning I gotta make a long run, avoiding him, to get another weapon.
All-in-all, I think this is an excellent last battle. I agree, the finally battle should be the toughest and not some little 2 minute fight sequence with a boss you kill in one shot with some super amazing move or weapon which for some reason you never had until that point.
Oh, and as for the reloading thing I previously mentioned, I was attempting to figure it out, and I think it may have just been due to the flammable tank in the little pillar on either side blowing up near me from being shot. [Which for what it's worth I think there's 2 flammable tanks (4 total) on the 1st and 2nd floor inside the little pillars with the bowls of fire which are concealed by side panels]
Oh and one last thing, during the Radec fight, I did try to keep the other guy revived just because, even though his AI sucks as far as targeting and seeing radec behind him, He will aim in the general direction and fire if he appears behind me and I don’t happen to see the flash. It’s not much but there were a few times I didn’t see the flash and only knew Radec had appeared behind me because of him. It also gives Radec a second target though he usually doesn’t go for him. I would say though, if you are going to keep him revived, do it right after Radec cloaks and hit the button then keep moving. Your head’s down for a moment, but honestly of all the times dying to him, it was never while reviving.
I didn’t bother to update it when I beat it, but in a way I finally decided I should. Cause after I beat the game I began playing warzone, and I just gotta say, if you can’t beat the game on atleast trooper, you really shouldn’t even get on warzone. I mean realistically looking at it you can’t even beat it on “normal” while you go up against people that potentially have gone all the way. I think that the single player campaign was a great intro and training for warzone. Which as far as I can tell, The end of the game is suitable story leading into warzone. Or at least it makes sense and gives a reason to it beside just saying oh here’s online go kill each other for fun.
I think I disagree that the last battle should be as punishingly difficult as this one. I noticed that I only had one level left to do, so I was like, “All right, this won’t take long.” A few hours later, I’m still getting pummeled by cheap stuff like five rocket launching dudes and no place to get cover from them.
When you have to restart again and again, it really detracts from the narrative. At this point, I just want to get it over with, and I don’t care about the game any more.
