My first forray into the world of iPhone gaming found me pecking away at a nifty little 3-dollar tower defense game called “The Creeps”. While a relatively simple game, I wasn’t prepared for just how addicting it can be to pound evil with a made-up or silly weapon array. But did I get my money’s worth from the experience?
Get Creeped after the jump to find out.
The Creeps is about defending your sleeping self, represented by a little kid in a bed, from an ever-increasing onslaught of zombies, ghosts, skeletons and weird-ass flying blue monsters. At your disposal are laser guns, glue bottles, flashlights, boomerangs, and host of special rechargeable weapons. Each of the sixteen levels in The Creeps consists of wave after wave of bad guys, who follow a predetermined path towards their sleeping objective. Each baddie you kill gives you more money to use to build new weapons, or upgrade your existing ones.
Somehow, I missed the upgrade button for the first four levels and ended up building literally dozens of wimpy weapons in every available space on the map. Once I got the hang of it, the fun really ramped up.
Despite truly enjoying The Creeps, I must say that its downfall lies in the lack of any true difficulty. While I certainly failed at a couple of levels, in others I was abe to build a pretty good defense and literally walk away from my iPhone while my guns shredded anything that came. Even if the big bosses slip by, they alone aren’t enought to make you lose the level. So I’ll have to take off a few points for that.
Otherwise, for just 3 bucks, you’re looking at at least 6 hours of gameplay to finish all of the levels and a ton of replyability on the back end. Each level has a version that allows you to go for stamina, with unlimited waves of monsters. I usually tire out around the 100 wave mark. (again its easy.)
For what it is, a three-dollar tower defense game, The Creeps gets my blessing and endorsements. Kill the time on a layover or zone out, as I did, in a boring meeting. I reccomend you add this to your apps.

Nice review, Doc!
I bought this game a while ago, and I love it!
I just wish they had more settings….
I mean, a spooky forest and Mars? C’MON!!
I’ll see about getting this.
Try geoDefense if you want more difficulty. Maybe I’m just new to tower defense games, but even the easy setting is giving me some trouble…
