It is no secret that I am quite excited about THQ’s “WWE Legends of WrestleMania.” Not only will the game feature many memorable grapplers from my childhood, but it will also come packed with authentic themes and entrances. Essentially, it is going to be the greatest wrestling game since “No Mercy” on the Nintendo 64. Maybe.
Gametrailers has posted a couple new videos detailing the Relive and Redefine aspects of the Tour Mode. The names are pretty self-explanatory, but hit the jump if you want some details.
Tour mode allows fans to relive, rewrite or redefine historic bouts from past WrestleManias. That is, players select a certain match and then emulate the outcome, change the outcome, or select their own finish. So, if you choose to relive the main event from WrestleMania VII, you will control Hulk Hogan and be asked to pin Sgt. Slaughter.
One of the coolest aspects of the game is that it will feature classic WWE footage, some of which will play during matches. For instance, in the trailer embedded below, Hogan’s deadly leg drop switches between in-game and vintage footage.

The second video, which you can view here, showcases the Redefine Mode. This option is a tad different. Players still have to pick a historic fight, but unlike Relive and Rewrite, they get to select which superstar they would like to take into the squared circle. The only catch is that the main match stipulation will be different. So, a historic one-on-one bout could become a steel cage match. The linked trailer shows Big John Studd and Andre the Giant in a Hell in a Cell match, as well as a ladder match between Mr. Perfect and the Big Boss Man.
Gamers with a “Smackdown vs. Raw 2009″ save file on their hard drives will able to import created and established superstars to “Legends of WrestleMania.” Ever wanted to see Batista fight King Kong Bundy? You can make it happen. Though, if you use Batista online, I will make it my personal mission to destroy you. Sorry, but if I wanted to see a talentless gorilla wrestle, I would just visit the Louisville Zoo.
The game is set to release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 24. There is a demo available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network for interested parties. I haven’t tried the demo yet, as I have been playing through “Resident Evil 5,” but I definitely plan to download it before the game hits store shelves. The robust roster is extremely impressive, but the promise of a revamped fighting system has me a bit worried. Be sure to visit the “Legends of WrestleMania” site, which features vintage WrestleMania photos and blog entries from Howard Finkel.
