Sony is growing on me like a fungus…

Here’s something you really won’t see every day. I’m beginning to see SCEE as a bit like that person in your social circle; the one who exists solely to piss you off at first, but then, over time, becomes someone whose faults you accept when they start making up for it by being quite a nice person. While that’s probably the worst metaphor you could see on these pages, it’s a good one for the context, even if it’s a rubbish one overall.

Sony’s really picking it up in Europe, and while it’s overdue, all I can say is that I’m glad! Read why over the jump.

You know how sometimes when you’ve had a really, really long day at work or college and your head feels kinda hazy? Eyes are half-shut, you’re feeling a little woozy like you’re about to fall asleep, but you feel pretty good at the same time. It feels as if there wasn’t a problem with anything in the world, mainly because 90% of the 10% of the brain that you use has already gone to sleep.

I’m kinda like that at the moment, and it’s in Sony’s favour that I was raking through my RSS feeds and noticed Eurogamer’s report that Lumines Supernova was hitting the European PlayStation Store today. This, coupled with the Killzone 2 demo without any need to pre-order? This is brilliant.

Maybe SCEE are finally hitting their stride. After all, they can’t hide behind any sorts of excuses to do with the publishers: they’ve all been very clear that they submit the games to Sony’s European arm in good time for a release close to (if not the same as) the other releases around the world. It’s just that SCEE seem to take their sweet time in getting the games out there.

One can only hope that it’s all uphill from here: a struggle, certainly, for a company so used to getting everything wrong in the eyes of European gamers. We’ve almost got something to shout about to the east of the Atlantic; then again, it doesn’t take much to create a European account and grab the Killzone 2 demo without every having to set foot in a GameStop.

We’re taking every small victory we can get here, so let us savour it. One can only hope it’s not the only one we’ll get for a long time. SCEE has been given the chance, with PSN updates such as today’s, to redeem themselves in the eyes of European PS3 owners. Let’s just hope they don’t screw it up next week, yeah?

If, for any reason at all, SCEE would like some advice on what to do with next week’s PSN update, I can spell it out for you pretty easily: Street Fighter. Nuff said.

I personally don’t care for region exclusivity. It’s the same console, should it be such a big problem releasing it on both servers at the same time? Shouldn’t Sony customers get the same treatment? or should we all argue “who got the best region”, that seems all pointless to me.
Just release it simultaneously in both regions, problem solved.
