Not content with announcing brand new ‘Carnival Colors’ for the PSP-3000 (check out episode 39 of the Blu Show for more on that) Sony today announced that the handheld would receive even more colors in the next few months.

However, the desperation for sales seems to be showing through…

“Maybe carnival colors aren’t for everyone,” remarked Phil Doofus, the SCEE marketing manager fresh from promoting Frost/Nixon: The Game. “That’s why we figured that introducing the PSP-3000 Hexadecimal Range was the way to go.”

The PSP-3000 Hexadecimal Range will make immediate sense to the webmonkeys among us. It is, quite simply, a range of PSP-3000s available in every color that is represented in hexadecimal. In other words, there should be a color for everyone.

“With the PSP-3000 Hexadecimal Range, prospective PSP-3000 buyers have 16,777,216 colors to choose from, and each of these shades of color will be mass-produced and distributed worldwide for gamers to choose from in stores or online,” explained Doofus. “It is, by far, the most intelligent thing we’ve done in ages.”

The Hexadecimal Range will feature every color possibly thinkable, from “#664233 ‘Mildly Interesting Brown’” and “#1C551D ‘Dark Pea Green’” to “#A0CFCD ‘Old School Corridor Wall’” and even “#DB8686 ‘Off-Putting Salmon Pink’”. If you can specify a hexadecimal value, you can buy a PSP-3000 in that very color, straight off of the shelf of your local gaming store or supermarket.

In preparation for the arrival of the Hexadecimal Range, Walmart and Best Buy have announced that they will clear out entire aisles of stores to make way for at least one of each of the 16,777,216 colors available, so that everybody will be catered for. The cost, said one Walmart spokesman, was “insurmountable.”

When queried about the cost, Doofus declined to comment. “Regardless of how much it cost…you have to say this is the smartest move we’ve ever made.”
