After an avalanche of tears and whine came down from the proverbial mountain over RE 5’s controls feeling “exactly” like RE 4, Capcom has announced a new control scheme and controller bundle for Resident Evil 5.
All the details, including a photo of the new controller, after the jump!
Capcom spokseman Eugene Fitzsimmons explains,
“People just were not ready to play RE 5 in the same exact way as RE 4. People complained, and we listened. We hear your whine and we’ve brought a bit of cheese along to make you all feel better.”
Introducing the NewbStick!
Never again will you be “Baffled” by button presses or those annoying “controls.” Now all you need is two thumbs, with a side of ignorance, and you’re on your way!
The official pricing for the NewbStick Bundle hasn’t been released yet, but we expect plenty of complaining and bitching once it is announced.
No word yet on a PS3 NewbStick, which is sure to set off yet another round of lame, crybaby flame wars…

hahahaha brilliant.
rofl…Lono, you’re a jerk. I complained about the controls, but I never played RE4. I haven’t played RE since Nemesis for PSone. Regardless, the RE5 controls just don’t feel intuitive to me. I’m not going to whine and moan – I’m just not buying the game.
i can get the whining if people have never played RE4, but i played that game to death and back again, so when i played the demo on my ps3 i felt right at home.
alot of people seem to forget that the restrictive controls make the game what it is, a SURVIVAL (as in its a struggle to survive) HORROR (as in you feel weak or helpless)
for me thats the reason dead space was not very scary, because the combat was good…….but in a bad way………….if that makes sense
i die all the time, this game sucks, end of story!!!!
make the game easiyr so i can play game so it wont suck!1
@ Farko – If you’re guy is meant to feel like a pussy then that was a bad choice because it’s like putting me against master chief with the strength that I have, sure I’ll feel more aware of needing to survive, but it still a bad idea because I suck at fighting.
So complaining/commenting on controls isn’t valid? “That’s what it is, deal with it”?
I hate to say this, but Lono, you’re sounding more and more like a “hardcore gamer”. Or more of a fanboy, who is resistant to hearing any negative commentary on whatever The One Game is. (No, that’s not a good thing.)
A poor control scheme is certainly a very valid reason to complain about a game. (Was it Lair that had the controls basically reviled, and the devs later admitted they sucked?)
That said, I haven’t decided if the control scheme for RE5 is “poor” or that I’m just not used to it yet. I’ve played the demo but not very long, hence my delay on judging the controls.
However, I think games should be fun, not “work”–if I have to work at controlling the game, it’s not fun, and I’ll find something else to play.
I actually don’t mind ‘freeze while shooting’, it moves it away from being FPS-like (like the 360 needs yet another pure FPS) and into a more strategic game.
To me Bioshock was just about the perfect control scheme, but I know the ‘pause while selecting’ thing wouldn’t work in a co-op game like RE5.
Yes, I’ve played RE4, and RE1, but not any of the others.
I’ll try the demo again, see how much ‘work’ it is to learn the controls, perhaps share some commentary in relevant places, then decide to buy or not buy the game.
I beat RE and RE2 back in the day in SPITE of the controls.. but I havent played one since because I like to enjoy the games I’m playing.
Capcom hasnt made an RE game that was good enough to over shadow the attrocious controls since Resident Evil 2. Nuff said.
Dude I need one of those controllers!

I feel like I need to say something. I’m a huge call of duty fan, and I’ve never played a resident evil game. Ever. I jumped right into the new demo, and got the hang of the controls after about 10 minutes. Honestly, it’s not that hard to get used to. Just because it doesn’t play like halo jesus doesn’t mean it sucks.
RE4 ruled and so will RE5
I haven’t played the demo yet, but RE4 on the ps2 blew my mind! It really reinvented the whole Resident Evil series.
I’ve been following the Resident Evil series since the first one came out on psone. That first 10mins of the game where the dogs bust through the window, scared the hell out of me and I’ve been hooked ever since. If RE5 plays like RE4, with better graphics and has an awesome storyline, This game will freakin rock.
I’m really looking forward to Chris Redfields side of the story, because that guys been missing since RE1. Can’t wait to see RE5 story.
The Resident Evil controls have always been crap, how they survived this long is crazy.
RE5 is total crap. It is one thing to have lots of enemies or smart enemies or fast enemies in a game or a combination of these and another to have SHIT CONTROLS in a SHIT GAME.
READ MY LIPS: Zombies are slow. Humans are fast. Chris Redfield would finish last in ANY special olympics game.
No. He wouldn’t finish at all.
Reminded me of Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, only worse.
