Alright, alright, so the link between my all time top drummer and video games is a touch tenuous, but I just couldn’t resist! Ravi Drums, the drummer with a real name, is of course the man who rose to stardom following his somewhat overly animated (and slightly shoddy) reverberation creation on the Wii Music drum kit at Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference. Since it’s highly likely that some will have forgotten his legendarily overzealous performance, it’s only fair that I embed a little reminder after the jump. Oh, and the content of this news post is there as well.
Yes, smoke and brightly colored lights were used with stunning visual éclat – so what? The real star was Ravi, the man who so expertly coordinated the air waves of the virtual drum kit, producing a fabulous array of percussion notes in a timely and rhythmic manner. Yet Ravi was up to his old ways again, at this year’s Oscars no less, during A.R. Rahman’s performance of “O… Saya” from Slumdog Millionaire. He only gets a fleeting amount of coverage, but if you skip to 3:48 in the video below, you’ll see Ravi drumming like there’s no tomorrow. Yay Ravi!

I think he hit the drum once on camera.
That goofy looking grin is hideous.
Oh Ravi, if only Neil Peart could learn from you. Smiling while playing drums when you really suck at drums only makes the sound of your drumming that much sweeter.
He’s good, but he’s not Neil Pert. Then again, only Neil Pert is Neil Pert.
HA! I didn’t think other people saw him! I was afraid I was the only person who noticed him, I’m glad I’m wrong. When I saw him, my jaw literally dropped.
Video gone! Those blasted copyright claims are at it again.
