The Twitterrhea of responses from notable video game industry peeps has confirmed rumors of the borked Quake Live launch. For the last few days, I’ve seen tweets from tons of people who, after waiting behind thousands of people in a queue to get online, get error messages when they’re finally at the front of the line and ready to play.
What gives Id?
I haven’t seen any PR response to the beta madness, but one can only guess that a web based Quake is ripe for server errors and other general nonsense that usually occurs when the switch gets flipped on day one…
Here’s some of the tweets I’ve read on Twitter:
@geoffkeighley: I finally got to the front of the Quake Live line…only to get an error on download. “Not found (error to origin)”
@jeffgertsmann: Quake Live beta seems like it’s pretty much hosed at the moment. You queue up for awhile, then it just bounces you out to the login page.
Hmmm… Anyone else haveing issues with Quake Live? Report below!

I gave up. I waited for the Beta code, and then, having believed the game was available on all platforms via. the browser, was informed it was windows only.
I run a top-spec MacBook Pro which runs Steam no problem using Crossfire.

I jsut got access to the beta after waiting 4-5 months, and have had zero issues with it. Very fun if you ask me.
Appart grom long queue times, I’ve had no bother. Once I’ve got to the front of the queue it plays fine. And even if it is broken for some people, it’s a beta, the whole point of it is to work out bugs like this. It’s not the final game, and it’s not advertised as that.
yo i played this for like 2 matches then the whole server went down for hours and now i am in a 20000 line, and now stuck forever on the 40000 mark.
you guys should make a song for this like’ ring of fire’ lol!
Waited quite a while in the queue, but once I got in everything ran fine for the 20 min I played. I had forgot how bad I sucked at quake and this sure reminded me. Its a neat concept and the game runs smooth in the browser nonetheless. I’ll probably give it another shot tomorrow.
