Heading to the Amazon to Play

While sitting at my desk at Sarcastic Gamer Headquarters, I came across an article in the Houston Chronicle. Apparently,  Amazon.com has started to offer game downloads this week.

Check out my take on a few of the downloadable goodies this mega online department store has to offer, after the click.

I’m still in awe of the online shopping possibilities available now. Gone are the days of “Ding!, 3rd floor Lingerie. Ding! 4th floor Men’s wear.” Now it’s just click, click, pay. Since Amazon acquired Reflexive Arcade last October, the company has launched a beta for their game download department.

The site is offering full games for download (Windows/Mac) at pretty reasonable prices ($6.99 – $9.99). That’s all fine and good if you’re into this type of gaming. Some of the titles look pretty good, while others are obviously lame. Since my personal state of economy does not have surplus to pay for extras, I took advantage of the three free full game downloads (Windows/XP) they are offering until February 10, 2009. Yes kids, free is good! ….well, sometimes.

buildalot400x300ab41Build-a-lot is the first game on the list of free downloads. It’s a strategy game where you buy and sell properties while upgrading them and making deals in order to become a real estate mogul. I thought this may be fun, but it wasn’t. I’ll stick to playing Monopoly instead.

225jewel-quest-solitaireiiThe second game is Jewel Quest II. It’s a puzzle/matching game just like Bejeweled and similar titles. Whoop-d-frickin do.

center_the_scruffsThe third game is truly the only one I can say I actually enjoyed. The Scruffs is a scavenger hunt about a family trying “to save their beloved family home from being sold”. Hmmm, maybe their house got foreclosed on by my real estate mogul in Build-a-lot. Anyhow, I liked the cartoonish characters and the hunt. Best part, of course, it was free! Oh and did I mention it was free?

Hold on, I’m going to download these and it asks me for my credit card number! I only signed up to get these free games(might be fun for younger users who want to play somethign on my laptop) but it’s asking me to put in card details like I’m paying for them. Please help.
