I, for one, am a huge Zombie fan. I love the movies, the good ones anyway (there are so few) and I have been a big fan of Resident Evil. Well, there may not have been a Resident Evil game this year to satisfy my zombielust, but the Game Gods hooked me up so many games with zombies, that I could die a happy man on January 1. This year was definitely the year of the Zombie in video games and I couldn’t have been happier.
Let’s see where the crazy undead popped up in 2008.
It actually began back in 2007 when Doc, Lono, and I sat down to play a little game called Left 4 Dead for the first time. Well after over a year of waiting, we finally got a good full on Zombie FPS. Awesome! In the words of our buddy Chet at Valve, “4 player coop and Zombies… what more do you need?”
Some other games also got in on the Zombie craze. Saints Row 2 and Call of Duty World at War decided to give their buyers and renters a little bit of Zombie action. Saints Row hid their gem in an arcade machine in a porn shop, I guess they knew everyone would pop in to take a peek. WaW made you play through the agonizing campaign before allowing you to take down some Nazi Zombies.
Other games featured zombies as well, including World of Warcraft, GTA IV and even Fallout 3, amongst other games that came out this year.
The game developers finally realized that gamers want to kill Zombies in many different ways, which is why the Year of the Zombie (Thanks Harley!) comes in at #3 on our top gaming moments of 2008.
