Road Games are my made up group of words for portable games you play while on the road, or while taking a break from it all in your bathroom.  Let’s face it, for most people with gaming systems and full-on PC gaming rigs or gaming consoles, the portable gaming love is usually only shown behinds closed doors or while sitting next to a stranger on an airplane.

I started my little feature way back in December, but got side tracked with the top 100 Gaming moments and, of course, CES.  Now that we’re past all that, let’s get down to it with my portable gaming recommendations for the PSP and iPod Touch/iPhone, after the jump.

Let’s start with my recommendation for gaming with your iPhone/iTouch.  I’ve downloaded a ton of games for the little wonder, some free, some not, but the one game I’ve spent the most time with is a little paid game called “The Creeps.”

I was recommended this game by our IT guru/ receptionist Regua. It’s your basic tower defense (TD) game with a couple of iterations that may hold your interest over the rest. The “story” of this TD game is that you’re trying to keep the monsters of the night from terrorizing you in your bed.  It’s simple enough.

One of the fresh things about the Creeps is that you can manually target any enemy you’d like.  While this feature may be in other TD games, it’s put to good use here.  Besides manually targeting the creeps, you can target static objects in the environment and blow the crap out of them for extra cash, which serves two purposes. The first purpose is that these objects block areas along the path that the Creeps will take, which will keep you from being able to place turrets at their most strategically useful spot along the road, so blowing up the obstacles is key. Second, you’ll get extra cash, which can be used to buy upgrades, new weapons, etc…

Overall, it has ten maps with a second variation, or 20 maps total.  For $1.99, you cannot go wrong with the Creeps.

My PSP recommendation, on page 2.
