Sony Online Entertainment announced today they’ve signed a deal with PopCap to bring five of their titles to the Playstation Network.  The titles they’re bringing are Bejeweled 2 (available today), Zuma, Heavy Weapon, Peggle, and Feeding Frenzy.  None of these games are especially new or rare, but their absence from the PlayStation Network could definitely be seen as noticeable.  I think most people felt it was only a matter of time and apparently that time is now.

For pricing as well as other information, keep reading…The pricing for Bejeweled 2 is $9.99 and the rest are expected to follow that fairly standard pricing.  It should be noted that (at least) Bejeweled 2 supports 1080p resolutions, has trophy support, and secret game modes.

I found one particular quote in the press release to be hilarious.  Sony Online Entertainment’s John Smedley said “PopCap is to casual games what SOE is to MMOs.”  I’m not sure if he was implying PopCap was past their prime or if PopCap puts out great games that are popular and then tweak them to death so everybody stops playing them.  Either way it doesn’t sound like a very favorable comparison.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like a lot of PopCap games (Peggle anyone?)… but bringing them out now and trying with the expectation that people might get excited over the games is like trying to get people excited for a new Tetris game (no offense intended to PopCap.)  I’ll be much happier when/if PopCap is releasing their new games on PSN close to their PC releases.
