I really hate winter. Honestly, I can’t think of a more dreadful time of year. Sure, it is hot as hell during the summer, but the chilly season always brings ice storms that make travel extremely treacherous. Plus, I detest having to shovel my driveway. Thankfully, as a game blogger, I don’t really have to leave the warmth of my man cave unless I want food or decide to take a shower. Still, it is quite depressing to stare out a window and see nothing but a solid sheet of ice blanketing the landscape.
One of the few good things about winter, as PacManPolarBear wrote in this article, is that I get to spend most of my day playing video games, watching television and surfing the Internet. I was perusing the blogosphere earlier today when I stumbled upon “Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard.” I first heard about the game last year, but, until today, had never seen it in action.
“Eat Lead” is a third-person shooter starring Matt Hazard, a former action game superstar who is trying to revive his career by mowing down an onslaught of menacing foes in Marathon Megasoft’s new game. Basically, he stars in a video game within a video game. However, the 1980s icon soon learns that a nefarious entity wants to see him planted firmly below the ground.
I have embedded a few videos below to give you an idea of what to expect from the game. I really enjoyed the over-the-top action depicted in the movies, but it was the obvious parodies that really made me smile. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but I will just say that the second video features both 2D and 3D enemies.
Also, note the game’s cover mechanic.
“Not only is cover movement really intuitive, we also introduced something we call point and cover where the player can just aim their reticule at any cover object and press a single button to make Matt run there and automatically take cover,” Brian Etheridge said during a recent interview with videogaming247. Etheridge is the game’s lead producer.
Both videos taken from Gametrailers.
“We have a good amount of enemies and weapon types, which I think most games can tout, but I don’t think they can talk about having the variety that we do,” Etheridge told videogaming247. “Where else can you punch out a parka-wearing, cold war era soviet troop, pick up his AK to take out an old-west bandit, snag his double revolvers to head shot a Space Marine, then take his plasma rifle to blast on some hot, sexy robotic babes?”
For some strange reason, Etheridge forgot to mention that Neil Patrick Harris, yes, NPH himself, lent his voice to the game. Excited yet? You should be.
If you want some more information about the Vicious Cycle-developed title, I suggest you check out the rest of the interview by clicking over to videogaming247. “Eat Lead” is scheduled to release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March.

I saw this game yesterday too. It looks so awesome.
Nice picture. I love Neil Patrick Harris. I am married and he is gay. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
Looks funny, but if it’s not a budget title and still has that unrefined look, I’ll rent it.
Unlucky Northern Hemispherians. It’s always warm enough to go out in Australia. And no driveway shoveling for us either.
