Here we are then, the PS3 Wireless Keypad. A good while after the Blue Show covered it, I’m here to deliver an opinion in written form, complete with pretty photographs and some serious in-depth analysis. Well, as in-depth as I can be about a glorified keyboard.

The Wireless Keypad, to give it its proper name, is (as you can imagine) Sony’s answer to the 360 Chatpad. It’s there for those who want to send messages without having to reach for a clumsy, cumbersome, old-fashioned keyboard to tap it out. Instead, you can conveniently mash away on teeny-tiny buttons and, bar a few moments for corrections, it works pretty well.
The Keypad itself is reasonably lightweight if a little cheap-sounding (it rattles). By itself it looks sorta weird, but when clamped onto your PS3 controller of choice (as long as it’s a SIXAXIS or a DualShock 3; none of your third-party rubbish) it looks neat, and feels neat too. You might have to re-adjust how you hold the controller, since you’ll need to “reach around” to the shoulder buttons as such, but even then it’s as comfortable to hold with the Keypad as it is without.
How does the pad itself handle though? The truth about its practicality awaits over the page!
