Despite being handed some pretty nice reviews by critics from 1up to CNET, Boom Blox for the Wii never really did anything on retail shelves. It sold just 60k copies worldwide in its first month according to NPD. Even with Steven Spielberg’s name practically embossed on the box, the game just never really did anything. While many developers would probably tuck the franchise into their “let’s not do that again” file, Electronic Arts have decided to give the franchise one more try, despite Nintendo’s legendary lack of marketing assistance for third party Wii titles.
Introducing, Boom Blox Bash Party.Steven Spielberg once again lends his name to the game, which is apparently going to focus on totally beefing up the multiplayer system. Improved physics will make feel even MORE like you’re hurling crap at a Jenga. The improvements don’t stop there. Are you crazy?
What better way to save a franchise than with new BACKGROUNDS for the game and 500 new levels of rotator-cuff-tearing action.
This is very interesting given the current economic conditions and the dismal sales failure of it predecessor. First Mirror’s Edge, now Boom Blox part Deux?
Has EA grown a pair?

I heard the first was a really good game, shame it didn’t sell a bit more. Though this might be a horrible attempt at the bank one more time, you never know they might have gotten what they expected
I’m pretty happy about this, and overall, Boom Blox sold reasonably well. I believe they sold more than 500 K.
I believe you are wrong Lono Licious
Don’t get me wrong, I love the game, but it’s a simple to program game in comparison to let’s say… Haze or something. They don’t need to sell too many copies of it to make a profit, I guess having the “Steven Spielberg” name was the most expensive thing, They surely had 2 programmers working for 2 months, that’s all.
That’s why they are doing it again, it’s even cheaper, they have the engine, they have the textures, all they need is to make a couple of levels and voilà we have a game!
That counts for most wii games at the moment.
Has anyone forgotten the WiiMotion Plus? I honestly think that with more levels and better controls BoomBlox would be almost perfect.
Also, Doc… er, great arguing skills, denying something without evidence to support you like that.
According to VG Chartz, Boom Blox’s worldwide sales are somewhere around 740,000. I’d hardly call that a failure, Doc.
I’ll definitely be picking up the sequel. Woo!
