Last I heard, “Ghostbusters: The Video Game” had been tagged with a June 2009 release date. That semi-specific window is acceptable, but I would prefer an exact date. You see, I like to highlight important game releases on my “Thundercats” calendar. Someone had better spill the beans soon; I don’t want to have to shade an entire month.

Excuse me, my helper monkey is trying to tell me something.

What?

When the hell did they reveal that?

Really?

My apologies readers. It seems that “Ghostbusters” does have a firm release date. Please forgive my ignorance.

According to an IGN report, Sony Pictures, which owns the rights to the franchise, has revealed that the highly-anticipated title will be available in the U.S. on June 16. As usual, Europeans will have to wait a bit longer, but the extra three days shouldn’t be too excruciating.

The development cycle for “Ghostbusters” has been rather tumultuous. Activision Blizzard decided to drop the title last year, which caused an outcry from fans of the franchise. Terminal Reality founder Mark Randel attempted to quell concerns, but GameStop’s decision to nix the game’s pre-order program did little to help. Rumors then surfaced that Sony was attempting to negotiate a 2009 release for the game. The title’s future remained in limbo until Atari revealed that it had acquired the publishing duties.

If you still aren’t convinced that this game is going to be awesome, then I suggest you check out this trailer. Don’t worry about the tingling sensation. Its just the nostalgia kicking in.
