Flower is a new PSN title from the makers of flOw. What is it?  What can you do?  What does it have to do with flowers???  Read on and be surprised.

Flower is a PSN downloadable game where you basically control the wind.  As you fly around you pick up flower petals and that’s about it. That’s the game.

That’s not all there is to the game though.

The game features Sixaxis motion controls for everything, from navigating the menus to actually moving around the environment. There is only one other function and that can be executed by any face button trigger or bumper on the controller.  The controls work really well and if you wanted, you could play the game one-handed, it’s that easy.

The basic premise of the game is to fly around and activate these flowers that help turn brown grass to green.  I guess you’re helping to pollenate these plants, but that’s not explained, nor is it necessary to understand or enjoy the game.

I did get to preview a few levels, thanks to the personal demo by the Playstation Blog’s Jeff Rubenstein or JR for short. Apparently, Flower is all the rage withing the Sony offices, even the Killzone 2 Community Manager couldn’t get enough of the game, which is a testament to how different the game is from anything you’ve probably ever played.

The game was beautiful, if a bit sparse.  The game does boast some pretty neat grass and wind effects that really enhance the experience and almost make the game way to relaxing for a game convention experience.  The only bad thing I could say about the game was that I was experiencing it in the absolute wrong way, standing.  This is a game that should be played while lounging in a chair, relaxing in between long bouts of Call of Duty, or if you only have 20 minutes to play.

I was surprised that I actually liked Flower. After watching other people play it, I was sure that it wasn’t for me, but after a bit of time with it, I wanted to keep going on with it and see what else it had to offer.  Overall, if it came out tomorrow, I’d recommend buying it.  It was fun, relaxing and a totally different experience that what you’ve come to be used to in gaming.
