No sooner had a healthy number of the SG staff nominated Metal Gear Solid 4 as their Game of the Year, Kojima Productions, the Konami dev team behind the entire series, is teasing us all with a rather mysterious splash page on their website. It’s making a very obvious indication as to where the series will be heading next. Or is it?
Hit the jump for more.
Take a look at that header image if you haven’t already. The first part, I don’t really get. The “i + !” formula isn’t making any sense. That last bit is crystal clear to me, and should be to everyone. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn sure that what I see at the end is an Xbox 360 logo combined with MGS‘ trademark exclamation mark.
What’s it all about then? Every 360 fanboy will deny it, but they totally want Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Microsoft console. On Kotaku they’d verge from slating the game in one article to pleading for it the moment any rumors surfaced. The PS3 finally had a killer app the owners of another console wanted (although to be fair, I would kill to get Gears on my PS3).
I guess it was inevitable, especially with profits non-existent, that Konami are choosing to make Metal Gear multi-platform. Most of Konami’s profits in 2008 have come from Metal Gear Solid 4, outselling the total multi-platform release of Pro Evolution Soccer. The decision to take their best-selling franchise across at least two platforms (and the chances are the game will probably remain on PS3) is one of common sense.
Where does this leave the PS3 version? Will it, as a few have speculated with Final Fantasy XIII, leave it the more powerful console with downscaled graphics or will Konami have two teams working on the games at once? Or – something I’d dread to think – will the game hit the Microsoft console only?
Thinking about the potential profits offered up by a multi-platform release, I can’t imagine the second prediction coming true; I think the emphasis on the 360 is purely for the sake of publicity (like this). What’s more, the address of the splash page is listed under a directory called ‘mgst’. No prizes for guessing what the first three letters stand for, but the ‘t’? Who knows.
On another note, I’ve noticed some speculation among internet-dwellers that it could be nothing more than a Metal Gear Acid release on the iPhone. The exclamation point comprised part of the official title of the game – AC!D - and if this is right then the ‘equation’ on the website would translate as “iPhone + AC!D = On”. Who knows?
Get speculating, people: something multi-platform this way comes.

I personally would love to have MGS4 on my 360
It clearly says ” A Next Metal Gear Is” (Doesn’t really make any sense but come on the guys are japanese) Which I would assume means the next one will be multiplatform, But the symbol is the universal symbol for power so its quite a stretch to think that..
Anyway, This has nothing to do with metal gear solid 4..
In my head I’m beginning to agree more and more with an iPod/iPhone AC!D release…it all adds up to me.
The “A Next Metal Gear is…” Part intrigues me the most. Next metal gear impies not MGS4, and the “A” part implies multiple metal gears are coming.
I didn’t mean to sound like an ass in my last comment, But that was just my take on it…
Also, The actual link to the teaser page has MGST in it… Which could read Metal gear solid Touch;) and can we not forget the apple product(s) that were in a few mgs4 cutscenes:D
Anyway, If this is metal gear acid for the touch.. Im super excited, I loved the first 2 and needed something else to convince me to buy a touch.. I guess this will do…
Hmm I still can’t see why people link the green power symbol to the 360, just because the 360’s power button happens to light up doesn’t make it obvious that the 360 is getting it, almost all electronics have that symbol…. its more sound to assume that its an ‘ac!d’ game or that it may see an iphone or DSi release…. now if there were some kind of ‘X’ symbol or reference to turning in circles aka 360 degrees then yes, its more valid to see that the 360 may be getting it
I seriously think it’s Acid for the i-phone. Why not? The i-phone has some good graphics for games and it really doesn’t sound like a stretch.
Although, I think everyone should get to enjoy MGS4, no matter the console of choice. It’s one of those rare games that exceeds expectations and really changes what you think a game should be. One thing I think we all can agree on is that games are the ultimate uniter, the reason why sites like this exist and the reason we play.
Calling it right now. It’s not MGS 4 on the 360, but a new mgs game for the PC, or possibly MGS4 for the PC.
Explain the “i” though. That can only mean iPod or iPhone, right?
@ Yamster
its plausible….. since this is all speculation so far.
Or DSi
As much as i’d loooove to see MGS on my 360, it looks to me like an iphone iteration of the game.
Ah well, I’ll just have to drown my sorrows in some rockband2.
Yeah, I don’t know if PS3 hating Xbox owners exist (I’ve never met one in real life), but I personally would love to play MGS4 on my 360.
