There are few things more annoying to the gaming community than when politicians takes a stab at Video Games to further their careers. What is even more annoying is when they make vile specific accusations that are untrue because they obviously never played the game! Nope, this isn’t the Fox News fiasco either…
Find out who else played themselves out by not playing the game, after the jump.
In January of 2008, political conservative blogger/author/radio host Kevin McCullough posted an article on his www.townhall.com blog titled: “The ‘Sex-Box’ Race For President.”
In his article, McCullough blasted Mass Effect as a virtual sex simulator with comments such as: (the Xbox’s) ‘over the net’ capabilities virtual orgasmic rape is just the push of a button away,” and “The video game ‘persons’ hump in every form, format, multiple, gender-oriented possibility they can think of.”
Angry gamers flooded their forums/blogs and his blog accusing McCullough of gross exaggerations and flat out false accusations regarding the game.
Although McCullough initially refused to apologize or admit that his statements lacked actual research and credibility, he did finally issue a public apology to the gamers, but maintained that he still found the game to be offensive.
Townhall.com has since removed any trace of McCullough’s blog on Mass Effect from their website .
To this day McCullough continues to desperately try and save his failing career by attacking other issues that he knows nothing about.
Kevin McCullough’s false accusations of Mass Effect to boost his career is #99 of our top gaming moments of 2008.
