Things are about to get a bit techy, if you know what I mean, so if new CPUs and GPUs aren’t really your thing, then look away now. Still looking? Good, then let’s begin.
We started with ‘Xenon’, the classic 360 model featuring a whimsical 203W power supply. This was succeeded by ‘Zephyr’, a hospitable motherboard sporting a snazzy new HDMI port. Hot on its trail was the ornithologically named ‘Falcon’, which packed a sumptuous 65nm CPU, a luxurious 175W power supply as well as the old 90nm GPU.
But then everything changed with the arrival of…
…Jasper.
Jasper encompassed the 65nm CPU from ‘Falcon’, a majestic 150W supply, and a lavish 65nm GPU. But that’s not all. ‘Jasper’ units made the move from including a 256MB external memory card, to slamming 256MB of internal memory straight into the console. Phwoar!
It’s just a shame that gamers were forced to go looking for these new consoles, just to avoid their current one overheating. No so ‘phwoar’ now is it?
The fact that overheating consoles are still causing such a kerfuffle secures the Jasper fiasco a place on our top 100 gaming moments of 2008.

Look for the 12.1A in the voltage near the barcode on the console itself….that signifies a Jasper.
Ben Heckendorn (benheck) found this.
I don’t get it! So are the Jasper 360s not vunerable to overheating at all or is it jsut significantly reduced?
Personally I’ve never trusted Microsoft as a company, not that I trust any other companies much more, however, at least most other companies make products that work the way that they should or in another situation *nix which isn’t owned by a company and alright it isn’t a PERFECT “product” but it is far more secure and/or stable than the “competition”.
But anyway, I digress, the ONLY reason that I haven’t bought a 360 is because I am afraid it would break on me (and at the moment money) but mostly the former problem.

I’m pretty sure, like anything, it’s not totally invulnerable to overheating, but yes, significantly reduced – from what i’ve heard
I agree with your 2nd point to some extent, lol. i put off getting a 360 for the same reason, but after years, with significant price drops and extended warranties(3 years i think?) i thought there wasn’t much to loose lol
U can now get 360’s w/ extra controller for £99
