[HDTV required for normal size text]

Imagine being forced to read really small text just because you don’t have one of those new fangled HDTV sets. It would be pretty annoying don’t ya think? Well that’s exactly what some gamers had to put up with in Banjo’s latest outing Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts.

After the release of the Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts demo, it became apparent that several things were needed to read the onscreen text on an SDTV: a magnifying glass, a squintamatronic 3000* (a set of glasses that keep you eyes in a permanently squinted position) and the ability to sit 1 inch in front of your television. Despite fan’s discontent, Rare said that they would not fix the problem, saying it was “too expensive in terms of time, resources and money to alter.”
.
As fans turned their back on the once kindly Rare, a surprising revelation occurred in blog form on Rare’s website. “We are aware of the issue and currently working on a title update”, the blog post said, “[it will] be released within the next 30 days”.
Yay! Way to go Rare for fixing a problem that shouldn’t have been there in the first place! If only Capcom would do the same for Dead Rising.

Let me just point out that I have a 61″ HDTV and even I have a problem reading the small text. I can only imagine how unreadable it is on a 25″ SDTV.

All I can come up with is that all of the Rare developers had 36″ monitors a foot away from them when they designed the game.

Fixing it after saying “hell no” to sdtv owners might balance things somewhat but i doubt it’ll win them any points from gamers.

If you don’t have an HDTV, then just connect your console to your computer monitor FFS. Most monitors have an equal or better resolution than most TVs. And on top of that, most console games are rendered in 720p anyways, while the average desktop monitor is at least 1280×800. A little knowledge of the electronics you use goes a long way.
