In case you’ve been under a rock for the last 2 months, Gears of War 2 sold over 1.5 million on the first day of it’s release. With that many people playing the game, it is no wonder it sat on top of the charts. It is easily one of the best titles on the 360 this year. Possibly even GOTY to some. Then, suddenly people stopped have stopped playing it. The first week out I had 35 friends online playing Gears 2, and two weeks later I had ZERO. What could drive away so many people from such a great game?
Hit the jump to find out.
I got two words for Cliffy B – Crappy Matchmaking! Right out of the gate, Gears 2 multiplayer has been riddled with issues. Most notable are the wait times that have been reported that have reached upwards of 30 minutes, just to get into a match. Causing many of the Gears faithful to find other games to play. It is a sad day when a game that is so good has issues that make people jump ship.
We are told they are working hard on a patch to combat the matchmaking and rampant cheating issues, which is a whole different problem. No release date has been announced. I’ve got to wonder, is it to late to be #1 again.
That being said, Gears of War 2’s quick rise to #1 followed by a swift fall due to matchmaking problems, lands at # 57 in our top 100 moments of 2008.

The wait time is ridiculous. Why was it so much quicker to find a match in Gears 1 ? Is EPIC ass backwards or what ? Take notes from Bungie.
