Boy have I got a surprise for you SGC. It might be a tad late, but I just want to share some exclusive E3 2008 media with you, my faithful readers. There is nothing too risqué. I chose not to include the shots of me riding a horse through downtown Los Angeles nude. Just kidding. I was on an ostrich. Anywho, here is a video from Microsoft’s press conference; one from the Sony media briefing. Oh look, it is Nintendo’s presentation.

Longtime Nintendo fans were hoping for some big announcements at E3 2008. What they got was “Animal Crossing: City Folk” and “Wii Music.” The entire event was a dreadful, snooze-inducing insult to the company’s core audience. Gamers learned that the Mario and Zelda teams were hard at work, but the company didn’t provide any specifics. Nintendo also missed a prime opportunity to showcase “Wario Land: Shake It” and to announce the next Pikmin game.

Admittedly, Nintendo’s media briefing wasn’t all bad. “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars” was announced, WiiSpeak was revealed and Wii MotionPlus came out of hiding (after it appeared on the Internet the day before). Hold on a second. Did I just say something positive about the developer and publisher’s E3 showing? Heaven help me. I seem to be losing my edge.

For many Nintendo loyalists, E3 2008 was the moment when the gaming giant proclaimed its affection for the casual crowd. The company had indicated as much many months before, but core gamers had held out hope that they were still Nintendo’s first priority. Satoru Iwata, the company’s president, later apologized to core gamers for its trade show presser.

Nintendo put together an E3 presentation not even a mother could love, which is why it is one of our top gaming moments of 2008.
