You have to hand it to Electronic Arts. Despite the current economic climate, the company seems unafraid of a “significant creative risk.” Last Friday, the publisher revealed that it had added “Brutal Legend” to its 2009 publishing portfolio. That announcement followed EA’s recent conference call to investors, during which CEO John Riccitiello revealed that the company will be cutting costs following disappointing holiday sales. However, the EA executive stated that his company will continue to deliver quality interactive entertainment to consumers.
The first gameplay trailer for Tim Schafer’s latest game premiered this past Sunday during Spike’s 2008 Video Game Awards. I embedded said video after the jump for those who weren’t near a television or were sickened by the thought of watching the show.

According to the hilarious Jack Black, the game “will cripple the meek and destroy the elderly and win every video game award next year.” That would mean that “Brutal Legend,” which is only being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, would have to win best portable game of 2009. Bold words. However, if it was actually possible to snatch up every last industry accolade, Tim Schafer would be the man to do it. He is a brilliant game designer. His creativity and passion for the industry are matched by few. Sadly, Schafer’s games rarely generate huge retail numbers. “Psychonauts,” which was lauded by critics, was a commercial failure. The game quickly developed a cult following, but failed to resonate with a significant portion of the core audience.
As a result, I have made it my life’s mission to encourage at least ten other people to play it. Unfortunately, I am still stuck at zero. If you have never played Raz’s psychic adventure, I highly recommend that you track down a copy of the game. It is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The game’s mind-boggling levels, lovable characters and excellent dialogue make it a must-play for platformer enthusiasts.
“Brutal Legend” is scheduled to release for the 360 and PS3 next fall. The game was originally part of Sierra’s portfolio, but was cut loose following the merger of Activision and Vivendi.
Alright, time to get back to work. My love letter to EA is not going to write itself.

.
i may get it if i have the money i also have played psychonauts and it is a great game but i had never heard of it before my mate sold it to me
And to be added; Psychonauts is downloadable as an xbox original game, so it wouldn’t be that hard to “find a copy”
