Call of Duty 6 announced. Wait no. It’s Call of Duty 4…2.. and its not really announced, at least to us, only to advertisers, so pretend you didn’t read this and act surprised later

The earth began spinning off its axis when Activision-Blizzard (is it just me or does that name make anyone else crave ice cream?) basically announced Call of Duty:  Modern Combat 2.  They also let “slip” the existence of Guitar Hero 5, something nobody could have possibly predicted.  These “Bomb” shells and more came my way thanks to the exuberance of JP Meldrum, a dedicated SG community member.  There’s your shout out JP, now if you WOULD PLEASE let me get back to breaking this incredibly riveting story?  Thanks.

Jeff over at Gigantic Huge Atomic Bomb shared details this evening regarding the information that came out of some otherwise-boring presentation to potential advertisers.  Also on the list of unfathomable releases were:

  • A new Tony Hawk game
  • A James Bond racing game (Bond Motorsports?  Project Bond Racing?  James and the Giant V-10?)
  • Halo 3: Recon 2: Episode 1:

Okay, that last one was thrown in to see if you were paying attention.

The real news here, is that Activision has realized how happy we are about in-game advertising, and that all of these titles will somehow feature the pure awesomeness of Black and Decker and Crystal Lite plastered into your Middle East combat environment.

What excites me about this is how the announcement of these games was made to advertisers and not to the gaming media, bloggers, and communities that support and promote the games.

I think it shows that Activision has finally realized that all we care about is their financial well-being.  If an exciting new game is on the way, please, by all means, put in a call to Dr. Pepper and Huggies first.  They are the ones that really matter.

What an awesome day.
