Warcraft Weekly #4 – Spillin’ the beans about Wrath of the Lich King

Northrend is the new zone that will be opened to us when we install Wrath of the Lich King, and it’s going to be the place that anyone with a level 70 character is going to be spending many, many hours for a long, long time. I remember it took me a couple months of casual playing to get from level 60 to 70, and I can only imagine that 70 to 80 is going to be a trip on its own. So let’s hope that the content they’re handing to us in Northrend will make it worth our while to spend a couple months there. Unless you’re hardcore, of course, in which case you’re already laughing at this article while googling how to get from 70 to 80 in 10 hours.

One of the most interesting things for me about Northrend is the new World PvP zone found there called Lake Wintergrasp. There is no requirement or limit to players in the zone, so from 70 to 80, anyone can be there fighting it out in amazing numbers. The factions are fighting for control of a central keep, and while it’s in a faction’s control, that faction can trade in tokens to buy gear there. These tokens are found by killing off bosses in the Northrend instances. I can’t wait to get my hunter into the lake, though, and see just how far the mayhem goes. On top of the non-existent player limitations, there will also be seige weapons and destructible buildings found in Wintergrasp, a first for World of Warcraft.

Speaking of instances, Wrath will feature a new mechanic that I am very happy with: Each raid will be doable in both 10 and 25 man form. This means that if you’ve never been able to easily get a group of 25 people together, you can still enjoy all of the content that the expansion has to offer. Of course, the 25-man raids will still drop much better loot, but at least you can get 9 of your buddies together and take on the Lich King himself, you’ll just have to settle for some lower-tier stuff. A fair trade-off, I think.

Alright, let’s wrap this up on page 3.

Pre-ordered as well, ready to go. Some of the changes so far have been a huge improvement. Pally tanks, Pallys in general, still seem overpowered though.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the Zombie Plague fiasco. Seemed like a lot of fun until the griefers got rolling.

Boy still down, what a mess. . . and this is BEFORE the expansion goes live. Me thinks there’ll be very few death knights come tomorrow, we’ll all be staring at the realm status page
