Greetings and salutations, fellow WoW players! For most of us out there, this week is going to be a big one, because this Thursday marks the release of World of Warcraft’s third expansion pack: The Wrath of the Lich King. While I know some people out there aren’t as excited for the next upgrade to our favorite MMO for various reasons (bugs, glitches, or maybe the Death Knight scares you,) the majority of people I’ve talked to, are eager to load up their 70 and head to Northrend.
Now, as you have probably guessed, I’m going to be dedicated the 4th edition of the Warcraft Weekly to the new expansion pack. So, if you already know everything there is to know about it, you can move on. But if you want to get my take on Northrend, the Death Knights, and Lake Wintergrasp, you should take the jump.
Whether you’re a hardcore raider with 5 70’s, a pvp master with a couple 70’s decked out in arena gear, or a casual player who just got their first character to Outland, Wrath of the Lich King has something for everyone. While some of the major changes like Inscription and the new talent points were unveiled to the masses in 3.0.2, the actual expansion disc will give you access to the new zone: Northrend, the ability to level from 70 to 80, and (if you’ve met the criteria) the ability to create WoW’s first hero class: The Death Knight.
Since I fall into the latter category as a casual player with only one 70, my views are going to be skewed that way. Just a fair warning.
The Death Knight – By far the most drastic change to the game since the introduction of two new races would be the introduction of a new class, which actually changes things a lot more. What’s even more interesting about the Death Knight is that the class starts off at level 55 in the Eastern Plaguelands and is decked out in all kinds of cool gear. The only criteria to test drive this new hero class is to have a character reach level 55.
The Death Knight’s 3 talent trees are as follows: Blood, which focuses on melee attacks and has a health regeneration theme, Frost, which has some control elements and focuses on critical strikes and such, and Unholy, which has a lot of talents for your diseases and improves your ability to summon minions. While I haven’t personally played a Death Knight, it seems like it will be a fun class to try out, especially since it starts at 55. Might be the class of choice for me when playing on a friend’s server when I don’t have a high level character of my own.
Of course, I could go on and on about the Death Knight with their runic powers and everything. But that would make for a boring article. The Death Knight is going to be cool and we’re going to see a lot of them this Thursday. So let’s just head over to page 2 and talk about Northrend.

i’m ready!:D Already pre-ordered my copy
Pre-ordered as well, ready to go. Some of the changes so far have been a huge improvement. Pally tanks, Pallys in general, still seem overpowered though.
Would like to hear your thoughts on the Zombie Plague fiasco. Seemed like a lot of fun until the griefers got rolling.
Twas the night before WotLK and WoW is already in the dirt. . .
Boy still down, what a mess. . . and this is BEFORE the expansion goes live. Me thinks there’ll be very few death knights come tomorrow, we’ll all be staring at the realm status page
