Editor’s note: This is yet another in a long list of kick ass Sarcastic Gamer Survival Guides. If you want to check out the other ones in the series, click here for our list of guides for games like GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War 2 and Far Cry 2, among others.

So, you think your a Gears 2 Badass, ready to squash the entire Locust Horde yourself.  Or are you a newb to Gears altogether? I have a some helpful tricks and strategies to keep you alive on the battlefield.

Gears of War 2 has 8 types of Mulitplayer this time around. Warzone, Execution, Annex, King of the Hill, Guardian, Submission, Wingman and Horde.  Along with that are 10 new maps and 5 revamped classics, each with their own set of strategies.

With so much to play in Gears 2 you might not know where to start, or what to expect. I will layout the different modes and provide you some strategies to help you stay on top.

Warzone

Warzone is a straight up deathmatch, first team to kill everyone on the other team wins the round. Unlike other modes, once your killed you are out for the round.  The First team to win a set number of rounds, wins the match.

Tips

* Stay close to your teammates. Being able to revive teammates is a must in a match where you only get one life a round.

* Use cover effectively, move from cover to cover to flank your enemies ( It always helps to have a teammate fire on the enemy to draw his attention while you move around and flank them.)

* Unlike execution, once you down a enemy, continue to unload on them until they’re dead.  In Warzone,  you can kill from a distance, which is the preferred method if you want to stay alive. ( In Execution you have to get in close to finish them off )

Execution

Execution is Warzone, with a slight twist. As I said above, in Execution, you have to get close and pull of one of the four executions in order to eliminate the other players. Or you can blow them up o,r take their head off.

Tips

* Go for the explosive weapons, like the Boomshot, Torque Bow or Grenades. These weapons ensure that when they go down, they dont get back up. (It was my skills with the Torque Bow that led to our Domination of Gamertag Radio at PAX, while playing Execution)

* Always have a teammate nearby, because the other team is going to need to get in close to finish you off. Leaving a perfect opportunity for your teammate to pop their top with the Shotty.

* If you have frags and you know your going down, quickly equip them before you go down and as your opponent comes over to showboat a execution, you blow both of you to kingdom come. ( If you do it 10 times you get the “A Parting Gift” Achievement, one of my favorites)

Annex, King of the Hill and others, on page 2.

      excellent tips! i’ll definitely be using the “wall-tagging with a smoke grenade” next time i’m in horde. those bastards can really sneak up on you if you’re not careful.

      small tip: you guys are getting big in the gaming world now. grammar counts. there is a difference between your and you’re. :)

      I have to disagree about the flamer, if you get close enough to use it, (Use cover to hide till there close enough) then it will down an enemy in a matter of seconds, and since there screen is covered in fire it can blind them so they can’t always fight back ether.

      MY favourite moment with a newb. we were on the razorhail weapon on line he attempted to fire the hammer of dawn and killed himself. Or the time when a noob threw a gernade and it bounced off a wall killing him and his teammate instead on wingman.

      When I try the links for the other survival guides, im getting 404 page not found.

      What gives?

    • Truth N Justice says:

      @sean

      Not sure what you issue is the link works fine for me.

    • spencer52 says:

      I agree with outcast6. The flamethrower is a good replacement for the shotgun, especially in execution because you don’t have to do a lengthy move to kill the person, you can just flame them to death.

    • Truth N Justice says:

      @Spencer52

      actually in Execution you have to get right on them with the flamethrower in order to finish them off. I thought it would be good but my flames were no good until i got in close enough. So your point is flawed . But I didn’t say it was a bad weapon I just said that against someone who know what they are doing you are going to die running around with the flamethrower.

      Nice work TJ

      I can’t believe how much I know about Gears now!
      This was an awesome survival guide!
      Will I survive?…probably not.
      But it was still awesome info. Thanks TJ.

      @Truth N Justice

      Yeah, but you can turn that around too and say that if you come up against someone who know what there doing with a flame-thrower then you are equally screwed, as you would be against anyone using the weapon that they know really well and have great skill in.

    • Nihilistic says:

      Outcast has made a very valid point there, if you come up against anybody that knows what they’re doing with a particular sort of weapon you know you’re in for a challenge.

      Think about tatics here, like flanking and suppressive fire.. or power weapons, like the hammer of dawn, boomshot, torque bow and the longshot.

      Great guide, I picked up some great tips here! Especially the tagging the ground with a nade, I didn’t know you could do that! The more you know eh?

      Peace.

    • E-Sak says:

      so wait…. if you pull out a grenade before you go down, you can activate it? or does he mean to tag it before you go down? anyways, great guide ill be sure to use all these tips.

    • outcast6 says:

      if you have it in your hands, you can pull right trigger to catch the enemy off guard

    • DINONUTZ says:

      The flamethrower is an awesome weapon. It’s the best blindfire weapon, especially when you are guarding a small stairway, like on River or Mansion.

    • Drauglim says:

      I like the flamethrower, when I’m firing it and I go down it still spits out fire for the people trying to excute me, or is that just a glitch?

    • T3mpus Fugit says:

      Thanks for the guide. I really found it interesting (even though I own at Gears already :P )

    • marv says:

      about the flamethrower:
      idk i use it ALOT, and i can remember killing the entire opponent team whenever they rush one spot, for example, in fuel station when they tried to rush up the stairs to the top, and in ruins, when they tried to rush grenades on my side. to get the flame running good, just shoot about 3 ammo when you pick it up, active it, then walk around with it. its pretty good in ruins, blood drive, and fuel station if you ask me

    • I really like penis and I like the flamethrower in gears 2.
