For those of you not in the loop, the economy was a pretty big decider when it came to picking a new President late last night. Their plans on how to handle the currently fragile markets turned out to be one of the biggest factors of all, as a bunch of statistics, which I won’t bore you with, will probably tell you. Why is this relevant to this news post? Well, one electronics chain is feeling the chill because the money just isn’t rolling in, and are flogging stock like crazy before they have to shut up a handful of stores.
Hit the jump for the details!
Circuit City, that red headed step child of electronic pedigree (I don’t know, I’ve never been to one), is in a bit of trouble at the moment. The economic downtown is having a bad effect on the company, and as a result they’re closing 155 of their stores. Naturally, the stock in these 155 stores will have nowhere to go once said stores are shut, so CC is selling it all off with some pretty reasonable discounts!
Here’s a list of what can be expected in terms of discounts for today:
- All systems, from PS3s to Wiis, and their games: 5% off
- All accessories (controllers, Xbox LIVE memberships & points): 10% off
- Party games (Rock Band, SceneIt?): 10% off
- PC games: 10% off
- Game guides: 20% off
As the stores aren’t exactly closing immediately you can expect CC to get more desperate to flog the last of this stock; this might just mean that the discounts go up and up in the coming days. The SG Bargain Hunter (last seen shooting caribou in Alaska and voting at a polling station in the state yesterday) will be watching the situation with a keen eye.
Either get yourself down to Circuit City (with all 155 stores listed on Kotaku at the link below) or watch this space. And people said nothing good came out of a broken economy! Then again, job losses to the max…ouch.

The economy is just a smokescreen. CC is dying because it’s a very poorly run company. Their resources are horribly mismanaged and their managers are clueless… oh, yeah, and they can’t quite grasp the whole “sell something for more than you paid for it” concept.
I won’t go there just out of principle, but if you’re wanting to take advantage of this, I’d suggest going ASAP. Those deals won’t last long, so don’t wait for further markdowns… chances are, anything still left after a week won’t be something you’d actually want.
Smells like Christmas shopping!!
