For way too long, idiots have run amuck on Metacritic, the review score aggregating site. They’ve been allowed to hold games hostage over stupid issues like a 2-week delay (LBP) and other such nonsense (Gears 2 hasn’t even released yet and it has a 3.5 rating. P P P PLEASE!).
As if a light bulb finally clicked on above the almighty brains behind the site, they are finally doing something about the problem of moronically idealistic jerkwads using the site to trash games they haven’t even played. Find out what they’re doing about the broken user reviews after the jump.
In a small note at the bottom of the Gears 2 page on Metacritic, the site’s Games Editor, Marc Doyle, said:
My advice for our faithful users is to focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game. This is a gaming community, and if people want to stuff the ballot box, there’s not much I can do at this point. When we upgrade the registration requirements for participation on the site in the near future, this type of thing won’t happen. We’ll post the full legitimate user reviews upon the game’s release. As always, thanks for using the site.
What a concept. What took you so long?
Who wants to bet Metacritic lost, or came close to losing, an ad buy over their complacency over the growing issue of zombie review attacks.
Yay Metacritic. Or something.
