Three Major Gaming Leagues announce bankruptcy…

Which tournaments have shut down and what is the new up and coming tournament?  Follow the jump to find out.

Just like the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) and World Series of Video Games (WSVG) had closed in previous years, the Championship Series of Gaming (CGS) announced earlier this week that after two seasons they are shutting down operations.   Today, Major League Gamealot and the World Cyber Geeks simultaneously announced, they too would be closing down their tournaments as well.

It seems that *gasp*, gamers do not like to watch gamers playing video games!

However, a new tournament will be inaugurated in the summer of 2009.  The Fanboy League of Professionals (FLOP) will pit PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii argue against each other in a cross platform deathmatches to determine the ultimate game console.  The actual “games”  have not yet been announced, but I have been informed “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader” will be featured in the Grand Finale.

Tournament players do not receive a salary and will not receive cash prizes.  The Grand Prize winner does receive a tiara and sash that reads, “Ultimate F.L.O.P.”

More details as they become available.
