Okay, things are going a little too far in the LittleBigPlanet deletion debacle. While, as I reasoned last week, that levels in the game based on actual franchises will probably be deleted by Sony moderators (despite doing no harm to any franchise concerned), I didn’t expect levels that are entirely original to be swept up in the deletion storm too.
I’m not the only one, either; there’s a whole petition going on! More info and a link to the petition after the jump.
Let me set the record straight: levels based on God of War disappearing, I can understand, although I wouldn’t necessarily support it. As far as I’m concerned, an LBP level based on something like Mirror’s Edge is a world apart from the game itself and wouldn’t exactly stop me from going out and buying the real thing. Sackboy’s fun and all but when it comes to parkour he’s got nothing on Faith.
Inevitably this sort of thing will disappear. It’s a given, unfortunately. However, for no discernible reason whatsoever, completely, utterly, 100% original levels are disappearing left, right and centre having been reported and ‘moderated’ by the folks over at Sony.
Want some examples? I can give you two: The Azure Palace and World of Colour. To any early adopter of LBP, those words will conjure up fond thoughts of truly amazing level design and gameplay without a single trademark in sight. For no reason at all, they’ve gone.
Do we have any sort of comment from Sony as to why these two levels have disappeared? Nope. They’ve disappeared, despite lacking any sorts of copyright-infringing, or even offensive content (you can verify this for yourself above) and Sony’s not said a word; probably because they’ve realised just how badly they’ve messed up.
What’s the deal then? I think I’ve got an idea as to what’s going on. Head on over to page two for that all important petition link, too.
