If you could erase one game from your memory…

November 5th, 2008 at 11:00 am · 25 Comments

What would it be?

Personally, I think I would have to say All Pro Football.  That game was dismally produced and almost literally ruined the entire football genre for me.

If you could wipe the memory of ANY game from your mind, which would you choose and why?

Your answers could appear in a follow-up article.

I am guessing this will be a popular choice but, Superman 64. I mean what the **** was that.

Did they play it before releasing that pile of turd?

I cant believe i stuck with it for more than five minutes. If you ever wanted to torture yourself without physically harming yourself, this is the way to go.

Turok Evolution or Red Faction on PS2…

      Ugh

      Infinite Undiscovery

Mostly I just want to forget that I actually bought it.. for the full MSRP.

      Assassin’s Creed.
I would like to close my eyes and believe that they were actually successful with that game because the potential is there, but I played the game for a few hours, stopped, and never touched it again.

Yaris. Enough said. That game, while free, was the biggest waste of time and wasn’t worth the bandwidth that it took to download it. I just heard that Microsoft has now taken the entire game and it’s game page off of Xbox Live. At least that is a step in the right direction, now I have to wait for the NXE so I can remove it from my GamerCard!

Okay, I’m going to bust out a real stinker. It stunk so much that I think it disappeared before too many people could be harmed in the playing of it — Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory. It was a PSP game. It got a whopping 44 on metacritic for its complete suckiness which I think was a generous score. I usually can find something positive in just about any game. That game; however, has no positives. I returned it the weekend after I bought it. It was one of the reasons I got rid of my PSP.

Doom 3. While Dooms 1 and 2 were awesome, Doom 3 tried to take the original route Doom 1 was supposed to take and completely fails, because it has been done a lot better since. Narrow linear levels, the flash light issue, really horrible music, the game was generally unimpressive, including the much hyped lighting system. Doom 3 should have been exactly that, a sequel using the same concept as the first Dooms. Instead, it was a mess. Heck, you get to go to hell for about 1 level and it looks super boring compared to the first two iterations. Disappear Doom 3, to the abyss from which you came.

It’s a tie, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent on Xbox 1 and Perfect Dark Zero on Xbox 360. The sequels to the greatest console shooters of all time were so abysmally bad that it still keeps me up night.

    • Smiert Spiernom says:

For me it would have to be Perfect Dark Zero. I avoided it at launch because I wasn’t all that impressed with the previews but I got it later on through a rental service. I wish I hadn’t!

    • The Transformers game. Being a fan of the show and toys I got this one hoping it would be a good game. I couldnt have been more disapointed.

      Captain Planet for the NES.

      I still have nightmares.

If I could erase one game from my mind it would probably have to be Portal. It’s absolute perfection has spoiled basically all other games I have played so far. It is like that perfect ten girlfriend you had as a freshman you compare all other girls you meet to.

    • Doc says:

That’s a great point. There are several that I have played that have since killed other titles in their respective genres…

Cod4 KINDA ruined shooters for me for a while… Just because it was so awesome.

      Burnout Legends (DS)

I had to get the wrong version. This was before I read online reviews. My friends were talking about how great it was, so I decided to get it. I didn’t have a PSP at the time, so I got the DS version instead. It siad “Criterion” on the back of the box too, so I assumed that it was the same thing. The truth is Criterion hired some other garbage developer (Visual Impact.) to make the DS version after Criterion made the PSP game. All I can say is that they f’d it up. I’ve tried forgetting about it, but the truth is that it’ll always be there to haunt me.

Afterwards I did the right thing by getting the PSP version, and it rocks!

For me it would be SSX Blur for the wii. I was so stoked for this game but I got Super Paper Mario and my bro got SSX and boy does it SUCK! The controls are horrible and the special move thingy doesnt even work with the wii mote and nunchuk.

    • Spoony Bard says:

Even the worst games I have played, I would not want to forget, because they give me something to complain about. That said, Shrek Super Slam was just awful.

    • caffeinedisaster says:

      WCW Nitro/Thunder

      Ridiculous.

    • sogard says:

      Its a tie for me:
CoD4 (because it set the bar so high for FPS games)

Red Faction 2 (cause i LOVED the first one and the second was such a let down. actually Red Faction Guerrilla is looking even worse so I’d have to say that when it comes out)

    • Fleeka says:

I would wipe Banjo-Tooie from my memory, just so I could play it all again.

Think outside the box people ;D

Kengo: Legend of the 9 for 360. No explanation on what to do, no tutorial for a rather complicated fighting system and generic hack-and-slash action without even a basic story.

To this date, the only used game under $20 that I’ve ever felt ripped off by.

    • Quirky Turtle says:

Crysis. I’ve kept a fire extinguisher next to my computer ever since.

Oh, and Robot Warlords for the PS2…what were they thinking?
