I owe you one, Mr. Molyneux

Fable 2 has transformed the landscape of gaming in my household.  While the impact of the game in the overall world of gaming will be debated until some gamers tip over and collapse from forum fatigue, one thing has proven undeniable.

Lesley, the poor woman who married me, is now hopelessly addicted to Fable 2.

I’ve heard criticism from many that Fable 2 is too easy, however I respectfully disagree. More, after the jump.

I prefer “approachable.”

From the beginning Fable 2 doesn’t bury you in crap you don’t need to know.  From the breadcrumb trail to the simple controls the game seems to have been custom designed for Lesley, who has in the past nearly chunked controllers across the room in frustration.

Slowly but surely, Lionhead’s design team ratchets up your repertoire of skills and knowledge until, before you know it, you’re spouting off potions and spells with the best of them.  Such is the case with Lesley.

I proudly watched her play Fable 2 for several hours, expecting her usual, “This is just stupid,” comments or, “Why won’t she do what I am telling her to?”  Those words never came.

Lionhead have created what I think is the most approachable game I have ever played.  ANYONE can play Fable 2.

Deep RPG fans will find plenty under the hood to keep them tweaking and experimenting, while novice gamers like Lesley, never feel like they are in over their heads.

The story is immense, the characters are memorable, and there’s plenty of room and time for creativity between quests.

If you’re like me, and have been searching for a way to bring even the stodgiest non-gamer to the table, I would suggest that you leave them alone with a copy of Fable 2 for a couple of hours.  This game is awesome on levels I doubt the developers were even going for.

Thank you, Peter Molyneux…

My wife is a gamer now.  And she’s hot… The latter of which has been enhanced further by the first.

Did I recomend a good game for her or what? And the line about her hotness being enhanced by gaming almost brought a tear to my eye. I wish my guy was like that.

Ok, “hopelessly addicted” is a bit of stretch, but I will admit I like it. This is the first game in a long time that I have sat down and played for more than 20 minutes without getting frustrated or bored. On another note, I looked in the mirror this morning, and I think I AM a bit hotter. Wow, I should have started playing video games a long time ago.

I’ve had the same success with getting my fiance to play games thanks to Fable 2 and Rock Band. She no longer gives me “those” looks when I’m playing a game.

I completely agree with you Doc! My girlfriend picked up Fable 2 and loved it! She’s on her 3rd play through at the moment. She very rarely get’s into games, she touched at Viva Pinata and such, but this is a massive step forward!
