Once again Lono, you have neglected to actually give any concrete examples of why you didn’t like R2
Agreed. I can list some reasons why the game is not a solid 10 but rather an 8.5 – 9.0 release. The story mode is “ok” and the story is pretty shallow but what the SP campaign lacks in story, the MP modes make up for it in scope. The game was developed with longetivity in mind and you can tell this by the layout. If you are going to hate on a game, play the whole thing and log in some hours in MP, then give us a truly and constructive critical look at what is ultimately, a very good game.
Just listening to the end of the show. I love how they try to make us believe that it’s in two years and Doc litterally says “Hey! It’s two years from now.”
@Jacob816: I do have VERY specific examples. We just didn’t get back to it on the show. We’ll definitely talk more about R2 on the Orange show.

I think your opinions are more so based on the fact that you own both consoles or all the consoles. I only own the PS3 and I’m pretty happy with what I got. I understand and can see the flaws in the PS3 and the delays, but I still enjoy CoD4, Warhawk, MGS4, Uncharted, GTAIV, etc.

These guys make a show for the fans. They get nothing for it, so just shut it and go play on PS3. Also I own on, it sits there doing nothing. Apart from Wipeout HD.

The Wii doesnt deserve a bashing…its understood throughout that world its a “meh” console (THIS IS A REAL WORD NOW WOOO). It pulls down good numbers but If I sold an eletronic that plays pong for a dollar and ended up selling 60,000,000 does that make it a console equal to PS3 or 360? no.

Great show, guys. I don’t know exactly how we went into it thinking Dave was getting a new name, but we went out with Doc having earned one as well, but you won’t hear me complaining. The more nicknames, the better!
I agree with you guys on the PS3 issue, though not nearly as passionately. I won’t even attempt to get into it any farther than that. Expressing one’s opinion seems to get people flamed mercilessly these days.

Perhaps people are looking for interesting evenhanded game talk not… the unsubstantiated opinion of Lono. Saying that the PS3 is a massive failure is just totally wrong. It is so funny to me that you guys think that the only way to measure a consoles worth is by evaluating exclusive titles….last time I checked multi-platform games are just as fun on the PS3 and are a GREAT reason to own one. (Fallout 3 works flawlessly for me….AND I have never had a SINGLE issue with GTA4…ever..works flawlessly and even has trophies now)

I haven’t played R2 or Gears or CoD:WAW. Wanted to get that in there because I cannot provide concrete examples as to why these games are great or not. I will also state that I own a PS2 and PS3 and prefer Sony’s franschises. I do like the 360 and Wii and will get them when the price is low enough so I can play the exclusives that are on those paltforms. In fact, I already have a few Wii and 360 games on my self waiting for the consoles to get cheaper (no the $199 360 is not an option). I am prefacing this email just to let you know where I am coming from.

Regarding R2 I think I see why so many PS3 fans are perturbed. So many websites have been bashing R2, and Lono called it crap in episode 63, but when they put a number on the game (Lono didn’t do this) they give it an 8 or 8.5 which is hardly a bad game. In fact, that is a great game in my book. Subsequently they review a game such as CoD:WAW and the review is very positive and it gets an 8.5 as well. The confusion is that the reviews for R2 sound so bad and at the end I am left thinking here comes a 6 and then see 8.5 and my reaction is WTF?!?!?! I know the expectations were much higher for R2 then CoD:WAW but the reviews don’t relay that. It is like R2 is getting killed because it is not a 9.5. Even in the podcast the boys are talking about this or that on other games saying how fun they were, for example, Dead Space, but are seemingly more critical on PS3 games. Part of this is deserved due to Sony and us Sony fans because the expectations should be higher for a company who dominated the last two gens and whose fans let everyone know about it. The bar for PS3 games to surpass in my opinion is set much to high and should be on par with every console out there especially since Sony is not coming from a position of extreme strength this generation. Again, I have loved games since I purchased my first NES and this gen MS has made some serious strides to get their product in my household (full installs are awesome) but just wanted to point out that I wished that many media outlets blunted their expectations for the PS3. Guess what, from a games standpoint, the PS3 is not much better, if at all, than a 360 and the games should be measured on their merits not on what happened in previous generations.
Holy crap you guys are all friggin complainers, all they did was state facts, the ps3 has had most of it;’s large games have enormous problems, yes home has been delayed a billion times, the wii isnt worth talking about and there isnt much happening to talk about on the ps3 other than the consistent let downs, so its either bad news or no news.

First time here, and I like the show.
I don’t currently “have a dog in this fight” because a brutha’s got bills and I am the most hated type of game consumer–the guy who waits for the price drops and then cleans up, and I gonna do the HDTV first anyway.
Anywho… of all this Gen’s game titles out there only Forza Mortorsport makes me want a 360. So I’m leaning PS3 but I’m not rabid.. If I am “hardcore” about anything, it’s PC gaming. (Versatility Pwns. )

How is it all Sony’s fault, that the games on their platform are sucking?
How much more money do they have to shovel to the devs? Do they have to hire ninja to cut down devs that half-ass their work, or have to split resources over multiple platforms. Why aren’t more people taking their ire to the game dev/publisher’s door? If Kojima and Co. can deliver a nearly flawless game, what’s the other companies’ excuses.
Sony has made quite a few blunders this time out, but as a hardware co., they already had/will have a slight disadvantage to Microsoft, (when it comes to UI, integration, etc.) all the time simply because MS is a software Co, but Sony effort will get better. MS had a console lifetime’s head start to do something that they basically borrowed from the PC software side. Just look at the hardware of the two offerings..
Plus Japan is going through a recession slightly worse than ours so how’s Sony supposed to convince the Dev market to do something “just for them” when it the dev that is chasing the $$ of being (possibly) mediocre on 2 platforms (usually giving PC the finger) or being superb on just one? Should Sony start overextending themselves buying every small studio in sight and forcing exclusivity? Or drop even More cash bribing companies?
MS has the 360 as locked down as Apple does and are charging for all manner stuff and can make all types of demands that Sony is going to have difficulty making when they have to out-source that MS does not. MS also doesn’t seem to have any trouble propping up HD and slinging wads of cash at everybody then to leave them twisting in the wind or gutted.
That’s what bother’s me, and ever other person is hinting that Sony should abandon the PS3 and/or start working on PS4.
Why should they copy MS and try to con people? a la mentioning Windows 7 as something new, even though it is Vista ver. 1.5?
Sony already has a modular, well made, future-proof device.

Guys, for the record, I didn’t like R2’s single player campaign.
Also, the high scores for R2 are In spite of the single player campaign and a testament to how good the multiplayer is.
I’ll have my definitive thoughts on R2 in this week’s Humpday Update that will come out late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.
Well, I don’t believe this site or show is an “Xbox only” show.
I DO believe that people, at least in the media are being a bit unrealistic about a lot of the PS3’s titles; almost like they are out of touch with the average user.
Yeah, XBL is ahead of the PSN, no doubt. But HOME is not meant as the main interface to the PS3, unlike the new Xbox experience. It’s a SOCIAL gaming interface first…who cares if it’s in beta when released and even if it technically stays that way so they can keep iterating? For all the bashing on R2, it’s sure getting good scores in reviews. I agree the PS3 hasn’t exploded this year and if that’s the point, I get it. I think it’s done amazingly well so far with it’s price disadvantage vs. the competition though and that bodes well for the lifespan. I don’t agree that nothing exciting is going on with the PS3 though, but in the end, opinions are opinions. All I know is everyone I know that has one is happy with it and even at my work the amount of PS3 owners just keeps moving up especially as others hear about it. Sony DOES need to really work on the price of the console though over the next year, especially if they really want sales to pick up. Otherwise it will do just respectably well.
