this is my first time to post first, so ill do the nescesary “first!!”, the show rocked!
first!! the show rocked
oops, didn’t mean to double post so now ive triple posted
I can’t believe you guys are going to make me wait 2 more days to figure out who won?
Also, I was listening back a few a hows and Doc has not been on every show, Lono and Doc have the same number of shows. Doc missed episode 15.
Hes not saying lock up the videogames and burn them…he says moderate them…
The comment about Obama buying the election was very ignorant if u ask me. Last time i checked they both buy ads but only one actually realized that gamers are voters to. And i want a video of Obama bad mouthing Video games.
Thanks for the mention, guys. And no, I’m not a PlaySwitch plant. Although… do you think there’s any money in that?
Great show, fellows.
Blackflash, do you realize that Obama raised more money than Bush and Kerry COMBINED in the last election, the Obama spending has Dwarfed McCains spending, because McCain kept his promise to only use public funding and Obama broke his word, took private financing, just to buy the election.
So, before you call me ignorant, do some fact checking and then post your comment… thanks.
Obama said he would -consider- public financing, if an agreement with the other side could be reached.
The exact quote: “Senator John McCain has already pledged to accept this fundraising pledge. If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”
Now, if you believe that constitutes a promise, fair enough, we can just civily disagree on the matter.
Truth be told though, I imagine it will be about Obama saying put down the video games and get out and vote, then advertising in numerous games. Which is a stance that I frankly agree with.
The 18-24 year old demographic has had pathetic voter turnout in recent elections, (In 1998 less than 20 percent of 18-24 year-olds chose to vote. That is one in five. In 2000 only 42 percent of 18-24 year-olds bothered to vote, with an increase of 11% in 2004.), so yes, we do need to put controllers and keyboards down and go vote.
That same segment of the population is also the primary demographic of video games: According to video game demographics, 39% of people who play computer and video games are women. Forty percent of online gamers are also women. Thirty five percent of game players are usually under eighteen years, and 65% of game players are over eighteen years old. The average age of a video game player is 18 years old. Video games are widely used by 18 to 34 year old people.
To me, it makes sense that if that’s the people you want to get out and vote, you would advertise to them in the medium that they use the most.
I look foward to listening to the red show at work today regardless. Don’t ever change Lono, you’re an at times infuriating but very entertaining man.
I’ve really enjoyed the podcast until now. However, I will no longer be a listener. This election has forced people to show their true colors and I now know that this podcast is not meant for people that look like Obama. By the way if you’re so worried about game legislation, then you should contact your local congress person. They are the ones that vote on bills.
@money banks:
Wow. You’re an idiot.
On a lighter note, the sun is shining outside, Gears 2 is just days away, and Lono said “foilage” again.
@Jia Xu: Obama absoultely did agree in writing to only take public financing. You’re wrong.
@Money banks: You’re a POS. See ya.
Alright, I’m gonna try and break this down as simply as possible since nobody seems to understand it. Obama advertising on XBL does not make him a hypocrite. Every single time Obama has said “parents need to turn off the TV and put away the video games” he’s referring to CHILDREN, as in less than 15 years old.
Obama has no problem with adults playing video games, hence the reason he’s advertising on Xbox Live, a community where the majority of people on there are 18 or older (voting age). It’s not like he’s advertising on the Wii.
MoneyBanks, you hypocrite, you viper; after many months of this crap, I can’t take it anymore. You have eaten the lotus, you have drunk the Kool-Aid, you a have filled your mind with the insubstantial promises of hope and change that it has blinded you. To the point that if any one disagrees with you, it’s not because they have a valid point, it’s because they don’t “that look like Obama.”
BTW what do you mean “that look like Obama?” Do you mean having jug ears? Do you mean tall? Do you mean skinny? Do you mean male? Spell it out. Don’t hide behind these amorphous phrases with veiled meaning, if you are going to say something, have the testicular fortitude enough to say it!
Dr. King said “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I obstinately believe in America like this. MoneyBanks your attitude and thought process does not get us any closer to this ideal. In fact it drives further from unity to dissention.
@ Moneybanks: I don’t have a problem with people that look like Obama. Actually I think he is kind of hot. But that doesn’t mean he has convinced me to vote for him
McCain on the other hand is NOT hot, but I am not convinced by him either. I guess I need to make up my mind soon!
Great Show!
Money Banks : Erm… I’m confussed.
Yousty: Right on!
I was going to reply back about the advertisement, but it looks like Yousty already hit it, spot on! Good podcast.
I just had a mental image of a mock McCain video game advertisement — close up screen capture of a BioShock Big Daddy with the caption “Drill here, drill now!”
Wish I had Photoshop at work.
I dont mind people disagreeing with me. Thats a good thing. But to call me an idiot or a POS is out of line. I’d prefer for you to say it to my face. Perturbo, you make a great point.
@Money Banks
You sir, were out of line by throwing the race card just because Lono disagrees with what Obama is doing. That is as low as you can get. I have no sympathy for what anyone calls you after you coward behind that. Racism works both ways… By that statement you’re saying that we have to vote for Obama otherwise we’re racist… Well I say that if you don’t vote for McCain, you’re being racist too.
So suck it :p
@Money Banks:
I’ll tell it to your face. Got a Live Vision camera? But seriously, you’re an embarassment to this community.
Get out.
So I hear we’ll be giving away some Berry Medley on wednesday. Anyone else hear about that?
I did Dave!
I think Money Banks needs some berry medley right about now.
At least we are filtering the bad.
-1 listener does not really matter much because of the +15 we gain every day.
Sorry everybody got hung up on the Obama thing. We were simply talking about the Obama ads in Burnout, not espousing beliefs. A lot of that stuff was said in a joking manner and I’d half expect that most of you would get that and I’m sure you did. To the rest, take a look at the banner on the top of the page before getting your panties in a bunch.
@flash
The only issue I want to address is your comment people that look like you aren’t welcome here.
Never insinuate that I or this team are anything less than welcoming of anyone. The only people that ARE NOT welcome on Sarcastic Gamer are those who would exclude anyone based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion etc.
You made a huge leap in your logic, and connected two things that are so INSANELY unrelated to one another that it makes me wonder just how much we’re really losing with your departure.
Lono, Dave, and I have POLAR OPPOSITE views on most political issues and we have, until now, spoken almost zero politics on the show for a reason. Even this was done in 99% jest.
Because its an issue that is deeply personal to everyone and could only serve to divide us in the setting of a video game podcast. It doesn’t fit. Congratulations. You were obviously trolling to be offended and decided that someone saying that it was hypocritical to condemn an advertising medium and patronize it at the same time.
We have gone to enormous lengths to keep ignorant hateful people out of this community, but… hmmm…. maybe we missed one.
@Doc
Don’t you mean @Money Banks?
backflash didn’t say much… is there another flash?
I dont live in the USA, but I think u guys made it very clear, that the comments concering the election weren´t meant that serious.
In my opionion it´s just another great episode.
There´s nothing better than going to college half awake in the morning, while listening to SG Red Show!!! …well, maybe listening to SG Red Show without going to school
@Adam.
Shoot. You’re right. SOrry flash. that wasn’t you I was talking too.
Oh yeah, it’s November alright…
Anyway, great show, guys. I figure about 99% of your listeners picked up on the OBVIOUSLY JOKING nature of Lono’s political commentary. And as “someone who looks like Obama” myself, I am offended that a member of the SGC would pull the race card so flippantly.
And yes, Lono, Dogmeat is a shameful excuse for a canine companion. Maybe if we could somehow pull the dog out of Fable II and transplant him into Fallout 3…? Get to work, programmers!
@djdsf
Huh? I’ve been on every episode.
@Doc:
Quick! To the Archives!
wow i guess i started something, and I have looked and found that Obama never agreed to that, and the fact that he raised so much money was because support him, i dont see anything wrong with that. And I think you missed to realize what I was attacking, You said he was buying the election and to me that was an ignorant comment, I never called you ignorant, but the comment you made was. I never thought it was a bad thing to advertise when you are running for office, Obama’s people just realized that we gamers are also voters and need to be reached, and they did in the games that we play, if that is wrong the I don’t really know what is right in this nation anymore truly. And even if Obama did something that he would not do, what would say About McCain when he engaged in allow robot calls to people’s who after he said that that is something he would never do, when he was the victim. I really don’t have a say in who I will vote for because I can’t vote cuz i’m not yet a citizen, I’m from Africa and for that I tend to look at the nation as an outsider, and to me both can do good for the nation, when you see people saying that they will kill Obama if he wins, has the nation really evolved as it is made to be. All it says to me is that The US still has much growing to do. Tonight we will find out who is the winner and see the reaction of the population if Obama wins, but just to let you know other nations are loughing at us when they see us act like a bunch of children and it kind is very sad that what is known as the greatest Nation in the would has such short comings.
@moneybanks
LEAVE ALREADY YOU PIECE OF SH*T! your a baby that cannot take a joke, and
we dont want you here
@Lono: After much googling, I found a story confirming what you said. http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/06/19/the-problem-with-obama-s-public-financing-acrobatics.aspx You were right, I was wrong. Thing is, I’m not bothered by it, nor would I be if McCain had done it. McCain didn’t, so props to him for that, but the public financing system is broken as all hell, especially with 527s running around unchecked on both sides. That’s beside the point though. Obama checked yes on the questionaire and then opted out, as you said.
Boy, this crow taste like ****…
Anyway. I listened to the podcast at work today and honestly, the Obama stuff was like two seconds, most of it in jest and it was actually funny. The way Lono said matter-of-factly “He’ll ban video games after he takes office.” made me laugh out loud. So…lighten up everyone.
SG Pink will air this Thursday!!! Yay PINK! I’ll have a great Berry Medley recipe for all of you too!
Most commented-on episode ever, maybe?
well there it is the people have spoken and lets hope that the change that we want is here.
JES!!! obama is the new president,
so now games are baned from the soil of the US
hehe
