i used to play gears on my mates 360 and i used shotty all the time and it just blew people up and was really cool but now it suks cos in gears2 the shotty doesnt work and doesnt kill anyone and i hate it and epic have ruined it and im not gonnna play gears2 anymore.
so cos shotty doesnt work everyone now uses chainsaw and just charge you and suck at the game. shotty shots dont lower the other guys chainsaw so its really imba and everyone just chainsaws really easily.

These are the main complaints that have been targeted at Gears of War 2 recently, and some with good reason.
The shotgun’s damage dealing capacity has been noticeably reduced, but I don’t think that it’s necessarily a bad thing. The shotgun dominated Gears 1 and could easily win against any close range weapon, rendering a lot of the pickups useless. It also completely got rid of the game’s tactical element, since there was no need to take cover, when a few blasts from your shotty could dispatch any foe. The new shotgun remedies this, and pretty much forces weapon pickups and tactical play. Well, at least it would if…
…the chainsaw hadn’t been powered up to maximum capacity. Blasts from the shotgun now don’t cause your character to lower his revving chainsaw bayonet and so ‘chainsaw charging’ has begun to arise. In a recent game of Gears 2 I ‘chainsaw charged’ and got the most kills in the game (though much abuse was received about how I had no skill and couldn’t use any other weapon). The chainsaw certainly seemed a bit too powerful, but it’s hard to complain when you see toxic Locust blood sprayed all over your screen…as well as in the game.
Smoke grenades are too powerful? Sounds like you, laddie, need to sit down and think about the seriousness of the accusation you have made. Still think its too powerful? Then you think the same as me! Word on the street is that the smoke grenade should not be able to stun and be planted on a wall. As it stands, it’s very easy to stun, run and terminate an opponent, all with the grenade you spawn with.
As for the mortar…well…it’s hard to aim, so that compensates for the high power.

I like the gernades how they are in Gears 2, I am so glad the shotty is toned down, and the chainsaw is fine. I dont even begin to undestand the concept of a weak chainsaw? I agree the shotgun blast should force the “charging” player to lower his saw . Also the person about to get sawed can always hit B to force the contest.
Haven’t played gears2 yet but the shotgun was horribly overpowered in the original and that just runed the experience for me!!
I think that the guns in gears 2 are well balanced and perfect fot the combat system.The hammer shot adds alot to the game as it is not overpowered or too accurate,but in the right hands its can be deadly.Great game.deboer loves Zero Punctuation!
So, what these people are saying id that they are mad that they can’t use the shotgun any more?
I mean, I understand the need for close range, heck, the US Military does too, that is why they invested $ on the MP5, but there is no need for that gun to be the only thing being used, all of these complains are pretty much people bitching that they are un-able to whore the shotgun and the new whore weapon is the chainsaw.
People really need to learn to use a sniper or something.

On topic, I can see why the game has been made the way it has. I’ve not noticed anything like the Shotgun being any better or worse than in Gears1.
shotgun has been completely nerfed, and the smoke grenades are cheap as hell, especially on submission.
My friends at school seem to love it… I on the other hand probably won’t play it unless it comes to PC.
This is one of the reasons I never liked GoW’s MP. Since most people would seek cover before you can finish them with any assault rifle, you would either rush everyone with the Shotty or make a mad dash to the Sniper or T-Bow. It’s upsetting to hear that GoW2’s MP still has major problems.
I am a huge Gears of war fan though i never got a chance to play the first online. I personally think everything is balanced but the shotgun at point blank ditance is a instant kill. The mortar i just rapidly fire in random places and the smoke gernade is just awesome for online play especially on Jacinto in the small towers i set them on the ramps so while im sniping or lobbing gernades or just firing no one can sneak because the gernades go off. and as for chainsaw charging if ur fast enough u can just roll away and fire or attack back with a chainsaw. Gears of war 2 is way better than the first with all the new changes. Torque bow rulz

Who cares about the weapons when the lag is so bad in Australia you have a constant 3 second delay. Thats the least of our problems. I can’t express how dissappointed I am with the multiplayer.
why dont they make the shotgun just as powerful as gears 1 but make it a pickup weapon? i think that would stop the complaining on both sides
They haven’t exactly weakened the shotgun’s blast, what they have done is severely limited the range.
The chainsaw is extremely overpowered since the player rarely flinches while attempting to chainsaw someone and getting shot. Also, the “Rapidly Hit B” crap needs to go.
Smoke grenades are fun. Learn to use them, learn to look for them, learn to shoot them.
I think the multiplay has been ruined to long to get into matches for one and pathetic cainsawing all the time and no shotgun. EPIC GET ONTO IT

Yes chainsaw running has turned up. It’s not that bad though, i personaly never use the shotgun always lancer at hand so chainsaw chargers don’t have a chance unless they get me from behind (ahem). Anyway i think epic made a great a choice in reducing shotgun damage stops people just running into a cluster of people and running round till 1 person dies. If your good enough then a chainsaw charger won’t do much it’s not hard to stop just need 1 bullet and hell ther buggered. Overall chainsawing charging is a pain but is much better than shotgun charging.
I am glad they reduced the shotgun dmg. It stills does ton’s of dmg and if you aim for area’s of the body that are not protected by armour (head, neck, arms) you can still blow em up real good.
The whole reason I stopped played GOW1 was because of shotty rolls and I am glad they have been reduced.
Besides it did take away the whole tactical cover thing.
I have no problems with any of the weapons except for the chainsaw. The problem I have is that the chainsaw does not lower after a shotgun blast. I think the power of the shotgun is perfect now except for not lowering the chainsaw.
Lol, i love all the comments of people saying that the people who are complaining are just shotgun whores. I mean, think about it, a shotgun blast at pointblank range should totally lower the chainsaw or kill the guy in one hit as it is, the shot gun is almost useless. Bull*@(#, they added stopping power to fix the shot gun roll problem, with the lancer being the medium to long range weapon and the chainsaw dominating at close range, whats even the point of picking up other guns. They tried to fix a problem and made it worse in the end by overkilling it. and to John Tracey, presing b to fight only works if you yourself have a lancer and as i have stated, shooting them with a shotgun doesnt stun them at all. I know you can roll, but if your stuck in a small room, or roll backwards into cover, you stand no chance.
im not saying that the shotgun was fair in gears 1, but its way to underpowerd in gears 2.
Alright here’s the deal. The changes to the shotgun are that the spread has been limited and the rate of fire reduced. This forces people to aim their shots, not run and spray like in Gears 1. You can still point blank blind fire somebody, but you have to know where the shots go when you blind fire. The fact that the shotgun was meant to be an ambush weapon is emphasized in Gears 2, with the main object being to flank the opponent. As for chainsaw charging… a well aimed shot can stall him, where as almost nothing could stop a shotgun charge in Gears 1. This also applies to the stopping power aspect to the game, where anybody charging (or moving, for that reason) can be slowed to a stop with a hail of gunfire. These additions help retain Gears’ true calling, a tactical action shooter.

Take your head out of that jar for a sec. What people don’t realize is that the shotgun at point blank kills, but YOU HAVE TO AIM. So, in essence, YOU’RE MISSING. But this isn’t new. In pretty much every game where people miss, they typically blame it on the weapon or lag. Just now, people get all self-righteous and declare that “I’m not going to play this anymore cuz I can’t shotty spam anymores WAH” and “Epic fix this NAO I have no skill WAH”. Epic’s not fixing anything that’s not broken, and the game’s better without you whiners in it.
Its great, now there won’t be people rolling around people and blast their heads off, and smoke grenades are supposed to be annoying.
I think a lot of people are missing the point and blaming people who are now complaining as just shotgun whores in GOW 1.
The fact is GOW 1 was a lot of fun because of the shotgun and I think that’s why so many people played multiplayer. Admittedly, it was overpowered and if you really knew how to use it you could wipe out the opposing team which wasn’t all that much fun. You could also get games that weren’t that tactical because of it.
Epic have tried to address this but have dropped the ball as it were. The shotgun battles (which were brilliant at times) have now been replaced with pressing the b button like a madman to win a chainsaw duel. There’s no fun in that. They’ve upped the lancer but have completely downgraded the shotgun which has totally ruined the feel of the original GOW multiplayer which a lot of people loved. Hence why you had so many people playing well after it was released and why you have so many people “bitching” now.
And as for the argument “it’s now a tactical shooter”, how many tactical shooters have we got out there! Maybe GOW got respect because it wasn’t all that much of a tactical shooter but just good fun to play. We don’t all like to flank and take it so seriously like we’re in our own little cyber squad, we just want to go up and have a laugh blasting somebody’s head off in a good shotgun battle. And I’m sorry but there were tactics to be found in the original GOW, maybe not at the level as say Rainbow Six but that’s why it appealed to so many people.
Horde is also loved I think because the AI doesn’t run round with chainsaws like in the multiplayer.
Bottom line is there’s tonnes of people “bitching” for a very good reason.

Hey I know the chainsaw is gay but mainly only little gay wads use the weapon. I have learned how to handle gay little chainsawers but it just sucks when you feel like your on a roll just the you feel unstoppable then a little faggot chainsaw you in the back yeah it sucks rocks. But mainly be happy that you are even able to play gears2 online. I get really happy when I can go to a friends house and play XBL. Im stuck out here in the country with satellite internet. What even pissed me off when the son of a bitch told me you can play XBL on it.
dude I love gears 2 but its horrible. Every update something gets patched but sumthin else ends up worse. for the forth update why da hell is the mortar so slow to let go of?? after shooting it you stay holding it for what feels like forever! GAY!
