During Blizzcon’s Starcraft panel, Blizzard revealed that their upcoming RTS will release on three separate discs.
How’s that for an exhilarating, page-turning, interesting awesome-packed intro?
Yes, Starcraft 2 will be beamed into shop shelves as three separate games, on three different release dates, each focusing on on of the two four three different races. That’s a lot of threes.
First up is Terran: Wings of Liberty, closely followed by Zerg: Heart of the Swarm, with Protoss: Legacy of the Void bringing up the rear. Other than the order, we know nothing about release dates, pricing, multiplayer or GBA compatibility.
But let’s not focus on the void in our brain where there is no Starcraft 2 knowledge, but instead upon the section which is positively packed with a veritable ton of juicy, delicious Starcraft 2 facts. Ok, well maybe it’s not as packed as I made out, but we do know that each expansion will have 26-30 missions and a satisfying story conclusion with no cliffhanger endings, which will appease all you precipitous drops haters.
Of course, each disc will cost money (you heard it here first), so is this merely a way for Blizzard to restock their ‘Money to Burn’ vault, or is it because they want to get Starcraft goodness to you as quickly as possible?
What do you think? Yay or Nay?

I bet I’m the only StarCraft fan in SG… :’(
And I freaking hope thats a lie! 3 disks?! >:(
It could be really bad. But as long as they keep the multiplayer seperate from this oddness. I think I will be fine.
Better not cost 150 bucks…
@ The Cookie.
You aren’t the only fan of Starcraft. There are plenty of people on the forums who still own the origional.
I hope MP isn’t included in this stuff… Talk about an unbalanced game. I’ll reserve judgement ’till I know more. I ust hope the prices aren’t a shambles.
@slik1000
Thank you!
I’ve heard that the Zerg and Protoss campains are more like expansions, and some people hope that the 3 seperate disks coming out at different times are going to expand the lifespan of the game.
As for me, I don’t really know…
Sounds like bullshit to me. Believe me, I’ve done modding with Blizzard’s RTS games, and once you’e got the toolset in your hands it takes no time at all to build a single player story. I made a custom 9-mission campaign over a weekend. So any claims that this is for time purposes are bullshit.
What might be is like The Cookie said, the two other campaigns are mini-expansions, ala Brood War. If they add new content that wasn’t ready at launch, then I could understand. But even that still sounds fishy.
I’m calling this cash whoring. Something tells me each disk will be costing considerably more than $16…
lol, i loved starcraft but… the same thing happened with the original starcraft dont be amazed… there are going to be 2 expansions and thats all…
but i wont playing sc2, i will wait for the battle chest… maybe in a coupleof years xD
Starcraft is in my top 5 fav all time games easy. I will be there at midnight each release, and I will be getting each copy.
Knowing Blizzard they will add so much that you will want each game. Zerg FTW!
How the heck will multiplayer work?
What if someone has one version, while one has another – and will they actually be the exact same online game?
:S This sounds pretty unnecessary
This sounds inconvenient and expensive. I would rather that they just delay the release date and include the complete game with its promised 78-90 single player missions and ALL of the races. I shouldn’t have to pay full price for an incomplete game and then have to wait a year before I get the rest of it.
Between this and the whole ‘monetizing battle.net’ thing, I’m not sure what to think. Anyone want to place bets on whether or not they’ll allow spawn installs this time around?
Absolutely retarded idea. If they do this, I’m not playing it. They’re just exploiting their fans and PC owners.
