On a whim, I called Gamestop today, to ask how Wii Music was selling.
The game went on sale today.
“I have a huge stack sitting on the counter, but so far we haven’t sold a single one,” said an associate at one store.
Intrigued, I called them all. Every single EB Games and Gamestop in the Houston Metropolitan Area, the 4th largest city in the United States. As of 4:30 today, not a single copy of the game had been sold at any of the 48 Houston area locations of Gamestop, with the exception of a pair of copies pre-ordered at one store.
Granted this is an unofficial poll, but I’m pretty surprised that so few people want to flail their arms around and recreate the Super Mario Brothers Theme in a neo-jazz-funk style.

Yes, yes, yes… Wii games suck…. we know that. But look at Nintendo. They sold a console or two today I’m sure. Ain’t a shiny plastic box everything there is to gaming? Nintendo and the zombie drones think so.
It’ll probably be the top seller come Christmas
@both True enough.
DUDE……. EPIC FAIL
seriously that was a good move on nintendos part to try and get into the music games but i think a way to get more players would to be get a Wii guitar remote or somthign along thoses lines and i belive it would of helped sell more copies
Wow? Two copies! That’s more than the zero projected!
However, you forget to mention that at $50 a pop, that paid for all R&D for the game. It is already making profit.
Hmm… I picked it up at Target today. They said they’d sold through about 5 units, but it was just people who were waiting for it. Lots of interest from moms and couples tho, the guy said, because they saw it on Good Morning America.
Doc, suck my coc.
Lol
And that’s NICe compared to some of the emails I got, though most of them had even worse spelling than this gentleman.
It’s about time this happened. If this continues elsewhere then maybe Nintendo will get the message that half baking a game and putting “Wii” in it’s name isn’t such a good idea.
I live in Houston. But anyway, I think most people ordered the game on Amazon since they are giving away a $20 coupon for a future purchase. (That everyone is gonna use on Animal Crossing) I ordered it the other day…even though I swore I never would because the E3 conference was so horrible. I think it will be kind of fun
Great article XD
Although I wish Shiggy and his amazing music-experience game all the best *lie*
I wish they’d get back to making games their old market actually cares about. The wii had so much potential, as shown by no more heroes, but they just use it for gimmicky rubbish.
Because (this example notwithstanding…), the gimmicky rubbish has been making them a shedload of money.
A hell of a lot more than their old market used to, even on the old triple “A” titles. The potential market for gimmicky mainstream stuff is always gonna be more profitable than the core audience. It’s just a question of accessing it.
Sometimes Nintendo manage that. Sometimes they don’t.
I guess I will be getting this game when it hits the bargin bin at $29.99 or $19.99 & at the rate it’s selling it may not be to long until that happens.
I was interested in this game a while back but it did seem gimmicky as time went on and then I heard they wanted the full $50 for a game that seemed to play itself.
Games are all about the Gameplay and if the Game play’s itself there goes all the gameplay. Now there really is no story and the graphics are nothing special. The music is as they say just a bunch of public domain songs and some Nintendo ones thrown in. So it really doesn’t seem like anything special at all.
I won’t be buying this game anytime soon and lets hope Nintendo will put a little more effort into their next endevor.
