Sony Says, “No PS3 Price Drop This Holiday Season”

October 8th, 2008 · 9 Comments

You read that quote right. If you were waiting for one more price drop, before picking up your PS3, you’re going to be waiting until after Christmas. The stated reason for this is that confidence is growing in the Sony camp, so they don’t feel they need a price drop to sell consoles. Those cocky muthaf…..

Let’s find out where the confidence is coming from.

It’s coming, oddly enough, from their fall line up of games. The PS3, surprise, actually has a number of good games coming out this holiday season.

According to Patrick Seybold, director of corporate communications at Sony Computer Entertainment,”we have the best line up of any PlayStation generation going into this holiday and consumers will be very receptive to it.” With titles like Little Big Planet, Socom, and Motorstorm, it’s understandable why their confidence has grown this holiday season.

Who would have thought that games would sell consoles? Oh right, we did when we wrote a little song about it. All I have to say is, IT”S ABOUT DAMN TIME!

Guess I’ll have to stick with my 360 for now.

And my PS2, Xbox, Wii, SNES, NES, GB……..

No need for a Ps3 until they show me some more GAMES not available on 360.

      OTHER than LBP.

      @caff

I’d like to direct your attention to a previous article written by…Rothbart (?)…about those who purchased 360’s…then ps3s and those who bought ps3s off the bat.

I can tell you since i first bought ps3 I have never regretted it. It has had a steady flow of games, not the high amounts the 360 has gotten (but with an increase in software increases the proportions of shovelware), and I’ve been quite entertained.

My library is modest. Warhawk, CoD4, MGS4, Uncharted, SC4, R:FoM…but they keep me quite happy. PS store and community isn’t half as bad as some people suggest it is…and the lack of universal mic support has a silver lineing…those who actually have it tend to use it properly….

People tend to make the 360 a hurdle for buying a PS3, but the PS3 not a hurdle for buying a 360. I think it s social double standard that has just stuck with us since the launch of the PS3.

Until now, the only this-gen games that I’ve wanted to play and enjoyed have been

      Crackdown
      Forza II
      NBA 2K?
      Smackdown Vs Raw
      Rock Band/GH

The only reason I’ve (personally) had to get a Ps3 would be a Bluray player, though my lcd is a 32″ (that’s the biggest that fits in the armoire entertainment center) so I only have 720p/1080i capability. Until I upgrade to 1080p, I wouldn’t really have a necessity for bluray.

Back in the day, I would commonly buy a system for just ONE game, that was only available for that system.

Nowadays, I don’t see that ONE game for ps3 that I absolutely must have.

I DO, however, like the multimedia capabilities of the ps3 and the free online service.

Keep in mind that “no price cut” doesn’t mean the end of the world… other options include “value added” options like pack-ins or bundles or even completely new SKUs (80GB replacing 40GB model…. no price cut, but better value.)

As we saw last year, never cop to a price cut until it’s happening. They said the same thing last year and then cut the price.

There’s also the “price reduction” to clear out the channel, more like a “clearance sale” which technically isn’t a price cut but the end result is that customers can walk out of a retailer spending less and still getting a PS3.

Also, sometimes Sony speaks for whatever region the person quotes was from… “No plans for a price cut!” from SCEI and then prices are “effectively” dropped in the US. Technically SCEI didn’t have a price cut…

yeah, it’s all semantics, but the point is, don’t take this quote in early October to mean you won’t be able to get a better-than-current deal on a PS3 by the end of the year…

      First rule of Price Drop?

Do not talk about Price Drop.

The only game that would make me buy a ps3 would be GOW3 other than that the 360 blows the ps3 away with entertainment and games. So far I have not played one game on the PS3 that is better than Gears of War. There is not one game coming out for the ps3 that is better by far. Sorry Sony fan boys the ps3 is sinking fast. They should have stuck to the PS2 way of doing things, instead of thinking that no matter what people will buy it because it’s Playstation. Now with the Xbox being the cheapest next gen gaming system out there you might even see a drop in Wii sales. (the Wii blows anyways)

Sony gonna beat Microsoft @ ease by end of next Year with the FFvs13, GT5, GOW3,KZ2 and so on. SO 360 fan boys don’t cry now wait until we sink 360 like the previous xbox hahahaaaaaaa lolllllll. And the best part about this is that you can’t do anything about it.
