Phew! Almost forgot this feature existed. Nevermind, we may be late, but we’re still here, so hit the jump for this week’s question.
This week we want to know what your views on downloadable games are? Do you regularly download games on Steam, PSN and XBLA, or do you prefer to have a solid disc in your hand? Is the inconviencience of going to a shop to much? Do you fret over DRM (if you owned a downloaded game on a now unsupported console, and the console broke, you don’t have your game)? Maybe you don’t worry at all, and can’t wait for all games to be downloaded.
Just put your answers in the comment box below and if you have an idea for a question, don’t hesitate to email me at eoco [AT] sarcasticgamer [DOT] com.

I download games all the time. It’s just more convenient.
Like Lord Butters I downloading games has become commonplace for me. It is my preferred method of getting games, particularly via Steam and I look forward to the time when even non-arcade type console games are downloadable.
I personally prefer having a solid object that I can walk away from a game store with. I like going to a game store and seeing all that they have to offer, because I think I can make a better choice. I also think it’s easier to have a solid copy of the game so you can bring it to a friend’s house and play it, without having to jump through a bunch of legal hoops.
I concur with Spoon Bard On that I feel like I need to have a physical object in my hand. Although For demo’s and such, downloading works just fine.
if I ever buy a game via download, it’s always through steam. I don’t want to have to use several different services to get my games. If all PC games were available via steam I would buy them all there.
I prefer a solid disc, that way, if you want, you can return the game or get a new one if it doesn’t work.
Ive had tons of cases where my downloadable games I PAY MONEY FOR wont install correctly, so I wasted 15 or so dollars.
Personally, I would download games more if I had more internet capacity and more money, there would be a share of real discs, becuase the Australian Dollar is suffering.
I don’t prefer or mind downloadable games. They usually are cheaper and always available, you can play them directly, so there’s a benefit of being fast and convenient. On the downside it’s hard to put them onto eBay when you’ve finished them, so discs still have an advantage. Besides, I like to stack all my games on a shelf in my gaming room, so a bunch of discs looks a lot more impressive than a full HDD.
I much prefer digital downloads these days. As a PC Gamer, I have plenty of hard drive space. As a small flat owner, I don’t have a lot of physical space.
Add on to that, digital media is actually more robust. I can download a game from Steam as often as I like. If I want to play it on a friends PC, no problem, load up Steam, log in with my account and download it.
The other thing is that again, as a PC gamer, I have more rights with a digital copy. Most stores won’t take a PC game back unless it’s still sealed and wrapped, and even then their suspcious. Steam, on the other hand, give you ( I think) three days to cancel it if you’ve had a problem installing it (which I’ve never had happen).
The only problem I have at the moment is that digital distrubition should be cheaper, but some companies are actually putting their prices up for the digital version. CoD4, for example, is $70 on Steam, while my boxed version bought nearly a year ago was £19.99.
